Odin may have not just attempted to collect all six Infinity Stones, he may have actually had them all according to this brand new theory. After months of dissecting Avengers: Infinity War, fans are getting more curious with regard to the undisclosed past of the Infinity Stones before they were officially a McGuffin in the MCU. Based on Captain America: The First Avenger, human beings first experimented on the tesseract aka. the Space Stone as early as the 1940s. But the other six wouldn't emerge until recent years with the Soul Stone's location not revealed until Avengers 3. But considering the Asgardians' vast knowledge of these elemental crystals, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the former king may actually sought them for his personal use long before Thanos did.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Odin's secret first-born, Hela, revealed the Allfather's previous life as a ruthless conqueror. But it wasn't clear why he suddenly had a change of heart after taking over the Nine Realms. That leaves a major chunk of the two's story unclear, which made it a popular premise for fan theories. The latest speculation suggests that Odin may have actually wielded the power of the Infinity Gems at one point in his lifetime.

Courtesy of Reddit user K R H eff is a new theory claiming that the former Asgardian king may have previously used the Infinity Gauntlet to bring peace to the Nine Realms. The Marvel fan postulates that Odin "succeeded in his collection of the stones by sacrificing Hela to Hel so that he could acquire the soul stone and use the stones to make a peaceful nine realms." After fulfilling his mission, he separated the six gems and "just went around saying he won peace with war letting the stones fade back into legend."

This theory is slightly different from another one a few months ago that also links Odin to the Infinity Stones. In that particular hypothesis, the author suggested that the Allfather might have attempted to collect all six Infinity Stones, but unlike Thanos who reluctantly sacrificed Gamora in exchange for the Soul Stone, Odin couldn't bear killing Hela. And while both present interesting angles, the latest one poses a few more intriguing points. For instance, if Odin pushed through and sacrificed Hela and she ended up in Hel instead of dying, it implies that there are several fates waiting for those traded for the Soul Stone other than just "dying." Many fans believe that Gamora is only trapped inside the Soul World and can still be brought back to life despite dying differently than those who were snuffed out of existence due to the Mad Titan's galactic genocide.

Should this new theory eventually turn out to be true, it offers a narrative link between the Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises that could be convenient to mention in case Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 involves the remaining cosmic heroes saving Gamora from wherever she's the trapped in. But first, fans would have to learn how the current Thanos debacle gets resolved in next year's Avengers 4.
