It's been almost twenty-five years since Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee released on the original PlayStation. Now, thanks to Sony's latest State of Play, fans have gotten a closer look at Oddworld: Soulstorm, the newest entry in the franchise. Here's everything to know about the game and its release date.

During the latest State of Play, Oddworld: Soulstorms' showcase focused on the many ways the game will take advantage of the PlayStation 5's features. The game will use the PS5 DualSense controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, making protagonist Abe's experiences even more immersive for players. And after half a decade in development, Oddworld: Soulstorm looks very well-polished.

Fans have been waiting a long time for a new Oddworld game. Oddworld: Soulstorm was announced way back in 2016, before development turned to focusing on next-gen consoles as well. New footage of Oddworld: Soulstorm was shown last year before it was revealed Soulstorm's release date would be pushed back. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused many delays in the gaming industry. At the time, an unspecified 2021 release window was given. Now, thankfully, fans know exactly when to expect Oddworld: Soulstorm this year.

When Oddworld: Soulstorm Is Releasing

Oddworld: Soulstorm is releasing on April 6th, 2021. The game will reportedly release on PC and both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles, where it will be a console exclusive. Perhaps most exciting of all is that Oddworld: Soulstorm will be a PS Plus game for PS5 in April, which means PS5 owners can download this version of the game at no extra cost. The offer expires at the end of the month, though, so it's only available for a very limited time.

Even though it still has its trademark off-beat humor and fun platforming elements, Oddworld: Soulstorm represents a darker take on the series. Even with its darker edges, though, fans will surely be excited to take control of Abe the Mudoken once again. It's been almost seven years since the last Oddworld game released, so fans of the long-running franchise should be pretty excited to try out Oddworld: Soulstorm when it releases in April.

For now, Oddworld: Soulstorm is a console exclusive for PS4 and PS5, although the game will be available on PC via the Epic Games Store. The game will also be featured as a PS Plus title for April for PS5 owners, which means players can grab it for no extra cost. Oddworld: Soulstorm is set to release on April 6th, 2021.
