Season 1 of Netflix's supernatural drama October Faction ends with the Allen family's darkest secrets exposed and one of the Allens dead - at least, for now. Based on the IDW Publishing comics by Steve Niles and Damien Worm, October Faction is set in the small upstate New York town of Barington-on-Hudson. Fred (J.C. MacKenzie) and Deloris Allen (Tamara Taylor) move back to the town with their teenage twins Viv (Aurora Burghart) and Geoff (Gabriel Darku) - who have no idea that their parents are actually monster hunters.

The twins ultimately learn about their parents' real jobs during an attack on the family estate, and that's not the only revelation in October Faction season 1. The Presidio Foundation, the covert global syndicate that the Allens work for, is revealed to be a sinister force bent on the ruthless genocide of all supernatural creatures. Moreover, Geoff and Viv aren't actually Fred and Deloris' biological children at all; they're warlocks, who were stolen away as babies during Presidio's attack on the supernatural haven of Harlow. Their real mother, Alice Harlow (Maxim Roy), spends much of October Faction season 1 trying to get back to her children so she can reveal the truth to them.

Alice also has another agenda, though: resurrecting the warlocks who were murdered in Harlow by casting a spell that allows them to possess the people of Barington-on-Hudson. Just as the spell is completed, however, Presidio moves in and captures everyone at the Gate Night carnival - shooting Fred when he tries to intervene. Here's what goes down in October Faction's season 1 finale, and what it means for season 2.

What Happens in October Faction Season 1's Ending

October Faction - Alice and Deloris

After the initial attack, Presidio's forces quickly put Barington "under the dome," with plans to completely wipe the town off the map by releasing a biotoxin that will kill everyone (humans included), leaving no witnesses. The Allen house is used as a staging area to assess which Gate Night attendees have been possessed by warlocks, so that they can be taken away for study. Geoff, Viv, Deloris and Alice are all captured and held prisoner, while Moshe (Dayo Ade) joins forces with Sheriff Gina Fernandez (Nicola Correia-Damude) to try and liberate the townspeople.

Geoff and Viv don't have access to their warlock powers due to being drugged by Presidio, but after bringing him down to the house's secret basement laboratory, Deloris explains that the twins can use their blood magic connection to break through the effects of the sedatives. Phillip (Praneet Akilla) creates a distraction by starting a fight with Presidio's soldiers, which causes the other townspeople to follow suit, giving Geoff the opening he needs to reach Viv. They use their connection to reach Alice, who is now in an armored truck with Deloris as part of a convoy carrying them out of town. With her powers unlocked again by the twins, Alice causes the truck to break down. She and Deloris then kill the guards until only Presidio's leader, Edith Moreland (Megan Follows) is left. Instructing Deloris to go back to the house and help the kids, Alice uses her powers to kill Edith.

With Edith dead, the new leader of Presidio is Fred's mother, Maggie Allen. She presumably calls the Initiative's forces off, because Barington-on-Hudson is next seen calm and free of black ops soldiers. In the final scenes of October Faction season 1, Moshe agrees to work with Gina to hunt down Alice, the twins return to their normal(ish) lives, Deloris visits Fred's grave, and Maggie surveys a Presidio prison facility where Dante (Calvin Desautels) and Samuel (Stephen McHattie) are being held. Just before the credits roll, something being held in a sub-basement in Samuel's old laboratory breaks through the trapdoor and roars.

Fred Allen is Dead - For Now

October Faction - Fred in Limbo

One plot thread left dangling at the end of October Faction season 1 is Fred Allen, who was shot dead by Presidio soldiers in the penultimate episode, but returns in the finale. Finding himself in a strange limbo version of the Allen house, he's confronted by Omari - the twins' biological father, whom Fred killed during the attack on Harlow. Though his body is six feet under at the end of the season, it's heavily implied that Fred will find a way to return in October Faction season 2. Omari tells him that so long as he remains in limbo there is a "window" for him to "go back and fix things." Since we've already seen the souls of dead people return to possess new host bodies, Fred may well end up finding a way back into his own body - or his warlock kids could use their powers to resurrect him.

Alice's History With Moshe's Team

October Faction - Alice in Chains

Moshe is first introduced in October Faction episode 6, "Open Your Eyes," as the leader of an elite team of supernatural creatures that's hunting down Alice Harlow. She easily dispatches all the other members of his team, and after an initially hostile encounter with Fred Allen (Fred's brother Seth tortured and murdered Moshe's wife and daughter, and Moshe subsequently killed Seth), they decide to collaborate in searching for Alice. It's not until October Faction's season finale, however, that Moshe's connection to Alice is further explained. While held prisoner by Presidio, Alice tells Edith that she was hungry for revenge after the massacre at Harlow, and joined a band of rebels with similar goals (in Moshe's words, "defeating the oppressor"). According to Alice's version of the story, the group betrayed and turned on her, leaving her in chains at the bottom of a lake. Of course, Alice may well be leaving out important details, and there's likely a good reason that she was imprisoned in the first place. Expect to see flashbacks delving into her history with Moshe in October Faction season 2.

What's In The Basement?

October Faction - Basement Trapdoor

Describes as a "mad scientist," Samuel Allen used his knowledge of magic to resurrect his dead son, Seth, into Dante's body (with mixed success). Needless to say, he probably got up to a lot more weird science during his years of isolation, and October Faction season 1's ending indicates that he's been keeping something dangerous in the basement. Showrunner Damian Kindler told Screen Rant that there are plans to introduce Merle Cope, the main villain from the comics, in season 2, so it's possible that it's Merle who bursts out of the basement. Merle is a member of a family of voodoo warlocks, who persistently comes back from the dead despite being killed many times by the Allen family, and he has a particular hatred for Fred Allen.

In the comics, however, Merle is human in appearance, whereas whatever's in the basement appears to be considerably more monstrous. Another creature featured in the comics is an enormous she-wolf monster that's unleashed by a group of supernatural beings who also have a grudge against Fred. There's also Lucas, a former monster-hunting comrade of Fred and Deloris who is turned into a werewolf and forced to stay in his wolf form permanently after his human form becomes riddled with cancer.

Alternatively, whatever's in the sub-basement could be an entirely original creation for the TV show - perhaps an abomination that Samuel Allen created as part of an earlier attempt to resurrect Seth. Whatever it is, it's sure to cause fresh trouble for the Allens in October Faction season 2.
