Concept art for Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show reveals an Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader rematch - and the art echoes Luke Skywalker's own duel with Darth Vader from The Empire Strikes Back. After years of rumors and incessant fan questions, Ewan McGregor finally confirmed in 2019 that he would be returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi, though not in a movie this time but instead in a TV series on Disney+ - and joining him would be his former apprentice, Anakin Skywalker now Darth Vader.

A rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader happened aboard the Death Star in A New Hope, which ultimately resulted in Obi-Wan sacrificing himself to become one with the Force, thus paving the way for Luke's hero journey. But everything Star Wars fans know about Obi-Wan and Darth Vader's second duel will change seeing as the two will meet again on-screen, taking place several years before the events of A New Hope, with Hayden Christensen reprising his role as Darth Vader.

As part the inaugural Disney+ Day, Lucasfilm revealed concept art for Obi-Wan Kenobi, including one of Obi-Wan fight Darth Vader, which takes heavy inspiration from Luke Skywalker's iconic duel with Vader in the carbon freezing station at Cloud City. That fight is widely considered the best and most important duel in the entire Star Wars franchise; it showed what it really meant for a Jedi to fight a Sith, and it's something the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is looking to repeat, thematically. Not only is the framing similar in the concept art, but Obi-Wan's stance is exactly the same.

Obi Wan Vs Darth Vader In Kenobi Video

This isn't the first time that Star Wars has recreated notable moments from the films in other media, particularly to emulate the importance of those scenes; even Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker seemed to use Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker's duel on Mustafar as somewhat of an inspiration for Rey and Kylo Ren's duel while on the Death Star's wreckage. The intriguing thing here is what the concept art implies; Obi-Wan will duel Darth Vader again, it will redefine their respective stories, and it will be as grand as their first duel was as well as Darth Vader's own fight with his son, Luke.

Looking beyond what the fight means, the next thing is seeing who will win. Neither Obi-Wan nor Vader can die in this duel because they fight each other again years later for the final time. Furthermore, Vader said they hadn't seen each other since that fateful match on Mustafar, which throws a wrench into them meeting face-to-face again. However, Disney's Star Wars era has introduced multiple ways two people can interact within the Force, even going as far as to pass objects from one person to another, so it's theoretically possible that they could duel without retconning the established canon.
