Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to begin filming late this spring in LA according to Ewan McGregor. Rumors have swirled as to when the show would begin filming and where, with some speculating that massive sets in England were for the show. The series is set to bring back McGregor along with Anakin Skywalker himself, Hayden Christensen, who will be in full Darth Vader mode when the show begins. The series will be directed by Deborah Chow who has helmed episodes for The Mandalorian, including "Chapter 3: The Sin" and "Chapter 7: The Reckoning."

Christensen and McGregor are the only two actors confirmed to be in the series that is said to be premiering sometime in 2022. Plot details are under wraps, leaving fans to speculate what the show will cover. Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to be just one of several Star Wars series that will see Disney push the franchise in a new direction after the ending of the Skywalker saga.

In an appearance on Eddie Izzard's #MakeHumanityGreatAgain run for charity, McGregor revealed that the show will start filming in late spring, similar to what he said in October 2020 when he revealed that the show would begin filming in March 2021. McGregor also revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi will film in Los Angeles, contrary to previous reports that filming would take place in Boston, England. McGregor also says that the series will be shot much in the way that The Mandalorian was, utilizing the same technology that Disney+'s first hit Star Wars series did.

We start making it in the late spring and we're going to be shooting it here in LA. It's so funny every week there's a new report and my dad keeps sending me links saying, 'I thought you were going to be shooting in LA,' because there's another tabloid exposé that we're shooting in some bizarre town somewhere. Then it was meant to be Boston or Boston, England, but we're not. We're shooting it in LA.

While the plot of the series is kept under wraps, it's easy to figure out what the show could be about with what we do already know about McGregor's iconic character. After the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan goes into self-imposed exile on the desert planet Tatooine to better protect Luke Skywalker. It's more than likely it picks up up with Obi-Wan in these intervening years as the galaxy is beset by crisis during the early years of Darth Vader's tyrannical grip on the universe.

McGregor's excitement is palpable in the short clip, mirroring fan's own excitement. McGregor is aware of the controversy surrounding the prequel series and while they have been looked at in a better light after the new sequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi is an opportunity for the franchise to reckon with what many see as a flawed origin story for both Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. The show will also set the former friends on a collision course that will culminate in what is shaping up to be an epic confrontation between Vader and Obi-Wan and a return to the battle between good and evil that started it all.
