Obi-Wan Kenobi Sideshow Figure Debuts At San Diego Comic-Con 2017

Here's one for collectors of Star Wars merchandise - Sideshow unveiled a new Obi-Wan Kenobi figure. Comic book and science-fiction fans are likely still processing the glut of announcements, trailers and reveals that came out of this year's San Diego Comic Con 2017, but the Obi-Wan figure is still one such item worth taking note of. Sideshow Collectibles are highly-regarded within the merchandise arena, particularly among fans of George Lucas' galaxy far, far away - and this new announcement comes as somewhat of a pleasant surprise.

Previously, the company had released a Ben Kenobi figure as part of their Mythos series, which attempts to present familiar characters in new ways that expand the Star Wars mythology. The polystone item was based on the character's time in solitude on Tatooine, silently watching over a young Luke Skywalker, and was a big hit with fans.

Sideshow are now returning to that very series, with their Obi-Wan Kenobi figure. Announced at Lucasfilm's Star Wars Collectibles panel at SDCC 2017 (as hosted by Brian Merten and Dolly Ahluwalia), this item comes in 1:6 scale, 12" tall and is poseable. Once again, the figure captures Kenobi in his days on Tatooine before the events of Episode IV. The item's full list of accessories reads as follows:

  • Four (4) sets of hands for multiple posing options
  • One (1) pair of Jedi boots with wraps
  • Unique tailored fabric costume, including:
  • Tunic with tabards and sash
  • Pants
  • Under Tunic
  • Jedi Belt
  • Sleeveless Robe
  • Nomad Pack with Bed Rolls & Bandoliers
  • Obi-Wan’s Lightsaber with removable blade
  • Qui-Gon Jinn’s Lightsaber Hilt
  • Anakin/Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber Hilt
  • Modified Tusken Rifle
  • Two (2) Gaffi Sticks
  • Portable Moisture Vaporator
  • Grappling Hook
  • Droid Caller
  • Macrobinoculars
  • Goggles
  • Clone Wars Armor

As you would expect, the figure is highly-detailed and the extensive list of accessories is likely to have Star Wars fans very excited indeed, particularly the inclusion of Qui-Gon and Anakin's Lightsaber hilts and the character's old armor from the Clone Wars. Fans will also notice that the item heavily resembles a young Alec Guinness. The Obi-Wan Kenobi figure is currently without a price and isn't yet available for pre-order, but fans can RSVP on Sideshow's website in order to get an alert when the item is available.

The reveal of this figure arrives amid rumors that Obi-Wan is due to get his own spinoff movie in the near future, as part of the Anthology series. Lucasfilm are of course currently working on a Han Solo spinoff starring Alden Ehrenreich - and one would have to assume that Obi-Wan would be the next most likely character to be granted a solo adventure, particularly with Ewan McGregor keen to return to the franchise in said role.

However, with the troubles currently surrounding the Han Solo movie that have led to Ron Howard taking over as director, Lucasfilm may be having second thoughts about pressing ahead with another Star Wars movie focused on a single character from the original Star Wars movie trilogy. Time will tell, on that one.
