Ewan McGregor gave a teasing answer when he was asked about a possible appearance from a young Luke Skywalker in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. First announced in 2019, Obi-Wan Kenobi will be one of many Disney+ live-action Star Wars series to air after season 2 of The Mandolorian concluded in December of last year. Though much of season 2 was well-received amongst critics and fans, the final episode featured a contentious cameo from a digitally de-aged Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, leaving a sour taste in many fans' mouths.

After years of intense campaigning from fans, McGregor will reprise his role as the iconic Jedi master in the upcoming Disney+ series. Though plot details are being kept tightly under wraps as production has been delayed numerous times, there have been a few exciting announcements along the way. During Disney Investor Day 2020, it was announced that Hayden Christensen will be returning as Darth Vader, setting the stage for a heavily anticipated rematch between the former master and apprentice. Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes of The Mandolorian, has been tapped to helm the upcoming Obi-Wan series.

In a recent profile by THR, McGregor was coy when he was asked about the casting of a young Luke Skywalker. While filming for the Obi-Wan series has not yet begun, McGregor says he has done a few screen tests with Chow and he can tell "she is a really, really good director." When asked if any of his screen tests were with an actor playing a young Luke Skywalker, McGregor smiled and said, "That's very possible. I don't know."

Though much of the cast for the Obi-Wan series has been revealed, including Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse reprising their roles as Luke's adoptive parents Owen and Beru Lars, there has been no word on who will play young Luke. Since he will be about 10 years old in the series, digitally de-aging as seen in the season 2 finale of The Mandolorian will not be a viable option.

Last year, the Obi-Wan series reportedly sent out a casting call for a "precocious" boy and girl ages 8-11, seemingly to portray a young Luke and Leia. Set photos also seem to indicate Obi-Wan will visit the Lars family homestead in the upcoming series. It is seeming more and more likely a young Luke will appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, McGregor is likely not yet allowed to share any plot details.
