Disney has announced 10 new cast members for the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, bringing plenty of star power to join Ewan McGregor. The series is one of several Star Wars projects currently in development for Disney+, including Ahsoka Tano, Rangers of the New Republic, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian season 3. Obi-Wan Kenobi is directed by Deborah Chow, who previously joined the Star Wars universe by directing two episodes of The Mandalorian season 1.

Set 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and the Jedi Purge of Order 66, Obi-Wan Kenobi will follow McGregor’s eponymous Jedi Master in exile. Few story details have been released, but Hayden Christensen has been confirmed to return as Darth Vader, suggesting a new confrontation between two characters could be possible. With very little known about Obi-Wan’s canonical time on Tatooine, the new show has a lot of exciting directions it could go.

In addition to McGregor and Christensen, Disney has now revealed 10 more actors joining the cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The list includes Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie. Edgerton and Piesse will presumably reprise their roles as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru from the Star Wars prequels, opening the door for a young Luke Skywalker to possibly appear as well. No character details for the other stars have been announced.

A lot of new faces means a lot of new Star Wars characters, foreshadowing a journey for Obi-Wan that could lead him to previously unseen corners of the galaxy. Though he will likely begin the show on Tatooine (evidenced by Edgerton and Piesse’s return), it seems safe to assume that Obi-Wan won’t remain there for long. It would take a pretty serious situation to pull him away from guarding Luke, however, which could imply a connection to the early Rebel Alliance.

There’s also the possibility that some of Obi-Wan’s storylines from Star Wars: The Clone Wars could come into play, such as his past romantic connection with the deceased Duchess of Mandalore, or his rivalry with Darth Maul - a character who would still be very much alive 10 years after Revenge of the Sith. The early days of the Empire are a part of Star Wars history usually relegated to books, comics, and other more ancillary media, so it should be exciting to see the era brought to life with a proper Star Wars production budget. Obi-Wan Kenobi begins filming in April.
