Arguably the most highly anticipated upcoming Star Wars project is Obi-Wan Kenobi, a six-part limited series that will follow the titular Jedi during and the time he spent in exile on Tatooine.

While Darth Vader, Uncle Owen, and Aunt Beru are all confirmed to appear alongside Kenobi in the series, the appearance of a 10-year-old Luke Skywalker has yet to be announced. But since Kenobi spent his time on Tatooine watching over Luke as a growing boy, it seems like a no-brainer that he’ll show up at some point. But how could the writers incorporate him in?

A Brief Cameo Appearance

Luke Skywalker tells the Emperor he is a Jedi in Return of the Jedi.

Since Luke Skywalker’s involvement in the Obi-Wan series hasn’t been directly confirmed, it’s possible that he won’t have a full supporting role in the series. It could just be a cameo.

After The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch, the last thing Disney+’s growing Star Wars roster needs is another story about childcare. As a plot device Lucasfilm keeps going back to, antiheroes looking after kids is becoming the franchise’s new Death Star.

A Luke Origin Story

While the original trilogy established that Luke Skywalker’s was the quintessential hero of Star Wars, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series can dig even deeper into the character’s backstory. It could explain how he became the bright-eyed, good-natured budding hero fans met at the beginning of the original trilogy.

Luke’s early days being raised by his aunt and uncle and discovering the ways of the world could be used to contrast against Obi-Wan’s story, which sees a once-legendary Jedi past his prime going into hiding indefinitely.

Discovering Early Signs Of His Force Sensitivity

Luke didn’t learn about the Force or his sensitivity to it until Obi-Wan gave him his father’s lightsaber in the original 1977 Star Wars movie and accompanied it with a lecture about the energy field

But since Luke’s midichlorian count is in the same record-breaking region as Anakin’s, he might’ve discovered signs of his Force sensitivity years before Obi-Wan explained his powers. Luke’s arc in Obi-Wan Kenobi could parallel that of his then-nine-year-old father in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Uncle Owen Turns Against Obi-Wan

Owen argues with Luke about staying on Tatooine for another harvest in Star Wars

Sometime after Obi-Wan dropped off Luke at the Lars’ moisture farm, Uncle Owen turned against him. In the original 1977 movie, he discourages Luke from hanging out with Obi-Wan and dismisses him. But it’s unclear what turned Owen against Obi-Wan, and why he wants to keep Luke away from him.

It’s highly likely that Owen blames Obi-Wan for Anakin’s downfall (even though that had been foreshadowed in the other Star Wars movies plenty of times) and was worried Luke could follow the same path. However, if that is the case, it needs to be explored in depth.

Bullseyeing Womp Rats In His T-16

Luke Skywalker and Han Solo celebrate destroying the death Star in A New Hope

During the planning of the Death Star assault, when one Rebel pilot opines that firing a torpedo into a two-meter air shaft is impossible, Luke chimes in: “It’s not impossible. I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they’re not much bigger than two meters.”

If bullseyeing womp rats with a T-16 was one of Luke’s hobbies during his childhood on Tatooine, then it could be depicted in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Depicting What Happens On A Moisture Farm

Before Luke became one of the most powerful Jedi padawans in Star Wars, Luke was working on his aunt and uncle’s moisture farm. He was desperate to leave his farm boy days behind him and join the Rebellion, suggesting he’d been farming moisture for years.

But how exactly does one farm moisture? As long as Owen and Beru Lars are going to play a major role in Obi-Wan Kenobi, the show can depict what happens on a moisture farm and how droids play into it.

Going Down To Tosche Station To Pick Up Some Power Converters

There were a bunch of deleted scenes from the original movie exploring Luke’s personal life with his friends in the surrounding towns. When he reconnects with his buddy at the Rebel base on Yavin IV, it was supposed to pay off one of these earlier scenes.

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke could be seen hanging out with his friends in a nearby village, showing fans what kids do for fun in the vast, barren wastelands of Tatooine. He could finally get down to Tosche Station to pick up some power converters.

Narrating The Story From The Future

Luke's Force projection confronts Kylo Ren on Crait in The Last Jedi

This is extremely unlikely, but it could be an interesting way to frame the narrative of Obi-Wan Kenobi if an older, wiser Luke Skywalker narrates the story to the students of his Jedi academy, possibly even including a pre-dark side Ben Solo.

He could pass on the story of a Jedi in exile during a time when ruthless oppressors were hoping to wipe out the last remaining remnants of Jedi Order as a cautionary tale about the dangers of anti-Jedi rhetoric. There would be a heartbreaking irony in the fact that another Jedi purge is right around the corner.
