Ewan McGregor reveals the one scene in Obi-Wan Kenobi that made him cry, and it may not be an obvious choice. Released last year on Disney+, Obi-Wan Kenobi follows McGregor's titular Jedi after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The series features an older, self-exiled version of Kenobi who is eventually drawn out of hiding on Tatooine when a young Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair) is kidnapped. Obi-Wan Kenobi was met with mostly positive reviews from critics, with particular praise levied at McGregor's performance and the handling of his character's reunion with Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader.

In a recent interview with Disney Studios Awards, McGregor reveals that it wasn't the climactic duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader that got him emotional, but a scene between his character and Leia. The actor reveals that the scene that made him cry came toward the end of episode 6 when he says farewell to Leia with a typical Jedi phrase. Check out McGregor's full comment on the scene below:

“When I saw Episode 6 [of Obi-Wan Kenobi] for the first time… I got to see them down where we show in Manhattan Beach, and I went down there, and I watched Episodes 1 to 3. They literally shut me in a room on my own, and I was so impressed. But when… I was sitting there, and I watched Episode 6… when I tell [Vivien Lyra Blair’s Leia], ‘May the Force Be With You,’ at the end, I burst into tears. I was sitting there… There’s something so moving about it.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 Should Move Away From The Skywalkers

Although Obi-Wan Kenobi hasn't yet been renewed for season 2, McGregor has made it very clear that he hopes to continue the story. Plus, with season 1 earning positive reviews and boasting some impressive viewership numbers, it's certainly looking likely that season 2 will eventually move forward. If Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 does happen, however, it would actually do well to tell a story that doesn't involve the Skywalker family. Season 1 served as a continuation of sorts for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, connecting it to the events of A New Hope without too many major deviations from canon, but any additional stories with Leia, Luke, and Darth Vader risk undoing this.

Obi-Wan Kenobi ends on a satisfying note in terms of McGregor's character's journey with the Skywalkers, with the aging Jedi having found a fulfilling purpose in his life once more. The finale ends with Obi-Wan setting off into the desert with the Force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), and a follow-up season could actually explore this new dynamic with his old master. After all, Obi-Wan himself eventually becomes a Force ghost and season 2 could chronicle McGregor's character as he attempts to tap into this power. While Obi-Wan tries to increase his bond with the Force, season 2 could also see the character travel to new planets and meet new characters, thus avoiding complicating any elements of A New Hope.

If Obi-Wan Kenobi can successfully introduce compelling new characters and settings into the franchise, it could potentially stretch beyond just two seasons. Free from the canon and timeline restraints that come with interacting with pre-established, beloved characters, Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 could further flesh out the vast Star Wars universe and McGregor's character. As disappointing as it may be to follow Obi-Wan on new adventures without any of the Skywalkers, the move would ultimately be for the best and it could end up leading to some exciting story possibilities down the line.
