The first poster for Obi-Wan Kenobi has officially been released, showing Ewan McGregor's return. Audiences initially met Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope in 1977, but Ewan McGregor got the chance to make the character his own when George Lucas made the prequels. He starred in three films as Obi-Wan and became one of the brightest spots of the three movies. After Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the studio spent years trying to get Obi-Wan Kenobi off the ground as a movie before confirming its plans as a Disney+ series in 2019.

Despite the excitement for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Lucasfilm has kept details about it to a minimum. Fans know Ewan McGregor is back to play Obi-Wan after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, which will give the show a rematch between the brother-like characters. So far, the only glimpse at Obi-Wan came through some concept art released as a sizzle reel in 2021, but now the actual marketing campaign has started.

After the announcement that Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut on Disney+ on May 25, 2022, Disney and Lucasfilm released the first official poster for the series. It shows an older Obi-Wan Kenobi walking through the sands of Tatooine, which teases the setting for the upcoming Star Wars series.

As the first official poster for Obi-Wan Kenobi, Lucasfilm is highlighting aspects of the show audiences are already familiar with while hiding plenty of other details. Obi-Wan's story takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith and his mission to watch Luke Skywalker on Tatooine seems to be where the show begins. Ewan McGregor is pictured with a full Kenobi beard and with the twin suns of Tatooine behind him. It also appears that he's holding Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber in his hand, which at least teases Christensen's return even if Darth Vader isn't pictured.

Now that the first poster and premiere date for Obi-Wan Kenobi have been revealed, it might not be too long now before some official footage is released. Fans are anxiously waiting to see the first Obi-Wan trailer, and it now seems closer than ever as Lucasfilm begins the marketing campaign. It also should help that The Book of Boba Fett is now finished as well, so all Star Wars marketing can focus on Ewan McGregor's return now. And while some could be concerned with another Star Wars show set on Tatooine and featuring a known character, it is known that the series travels off the sand planet. Hopefully, future Obi-Wan Kenobi marketing materials provide a better idea of what the series will be.
