Mark Hamill reacts to Obi-Wan Kenobi's young Luke Skywalker casting. Ever since Hamill originated the role of the iconic Jedi in the original 1977 Star Wars film, his entire reputation has been based around Luke Skywalker. He reprised the role for the remainder of the original trilogy until 1983 and then returned to Star Wars decades later in Disney's sequel trilogy, featured most prominently in Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi in 2017. Hamill returned to the role again just a few years later for a digitally de-aged cameo during The Mandalorian's season 2 finale.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is now the next Star Wars Disney+ series on the docket. Since the series is set 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, Luke won't be portrayed by Hamill, nor will his likeness be used. Instead, Obi-Wan has cast an age-appropriate actor to portray Luke, about 10-years-old in the series. Following a brief glimpse at him in the Obi-Wan trailer, it was confirmed that Grant Feely is the one playing young Luke following a recasting.

Now, Mark Hamill reacts to Obi-Wan Kenobi's young Luke Skywalker casting. On Twitter, the legendary actor who originated the role expressed his approval of the casting, saying that Feely looks like a perfect younger version of the character and wished him the very best. Hamill also coined a hashtag that is sure to catch on, #TheForceIsWithFeely. Check out his post below:

Feely has only one credit to this name, which is 2021's Creepshow, so the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer is undoubtedly the biggest exposure the young actor has had so far. In the first proper look at the series, Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) watches over the boy on the Lars Homestead, who is seen pretending to be a pilot and wearing goggles reminiscent of the ones his father, Anakin, wore as a boy in The Phantom Menace. Other than this brief glimpse, the full extent of Luke's role and his expected screen time in the limited series is still partly unclear.

Feely's tenure as Luke has just begun, though securing Hamill's blessing is a great way to start. Over the decades, Hamill has developed a clear vision for Luke Skywalker and has been very protective of him as a character. In the past, he hasn't been afraid to voice his disapproval of how Johnson wrote Luke as a somber character in The Last Jedi. Thus, Hamill's reaction to Feely's casting should not be taken as empty praise but a clear indication that Obi-Wan Kenobi has found the right actor for the job.
