A new Star Wars fan edit turns the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ show into a two-and-a-half-hour movie. Lucasfilm spent years developing a solo project that would bring Ewan McGregor back as his fan-favorite Jedi from the prequel trilogy. More than a decade after he last played the Jedi Master, McGregor returned to star in Obi-Wan Kenobi, a six-episode series on Disney+ that chronicled his mission to protect a young Princess Leia from the Inquisitors and ultimately led to a rematch with Darth Vader.

The release of Obi-Wan Kenobi was a huge success for Lucasfilm and Disney+. It was reported that it was the most-streamed show ever on Disney+ during its opening weekend. Obi-Wan Kenobi reviews were quite positive too, as many eventually began calling for a second season to be made. However, there were some criticisms levied against the show, including the pacing of the story over a six-episode structure. For some, this only increased the interest in seeing what an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie would be like, which was Lucasfilm's original plan for the character.

Now, one fan edit imagines what Obi-Wan Kenobi could have looked like as a movie. Star Wars fan Kai Patterson took it upon himself to re-edit the series as a movie, and he has now shared links to it on his personal website. The movie edit is free to download, but Patterson stresses his preference for only those with a Disney+ subscription to view his work. He also notes that the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie edit is done as a fan and is his own artistic interpretation of how the same story could have been told better. Patterson is not profiting from the edit.

As originally constructed, Obi-Wan Kenobi's full runtime (without recaps and credits) was roughly 3 hours and 40 minutes. This new fan edit trims the runtime down significantly, as Kai Patterson cut more than an hour's worth of footage from the show. Some of the changes just from the first hour of footage include changing how Benny Safdie's Nari is introduced, as his encounter with Obi-Wan comes first and it is made to look like Reva strikes him down later on. The dinner party on Alderaan is also completely removed, while the chase scenes involving Leia that were widely criticized are mostly gone as well.

This new edit of Obi-Wan Kenobi offers viewers an alternate version of the show. There are plenty of fans who loved the way the Star Wars Disney+ series unfolded, and that does not change with the existence of this edit. Patterson has now simply offered those who had similar issues with Obi-Wan Kenobi a new way to experience the story. It might not be something that every audience member wants, but it is still a fairly impressive fan edit that offers a glimpse at how the original plans for Obi-Wan Kenobi being a movie could have played out.
