The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series won't be able to receive a nomination for the 2022 Emmys. The Star Wars series follows its titular Jedi with Ewan McGregor reprising the role as he navigates life in the galaxy ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Hayden Christensen will also be returning to play Darth Vader as the infamous villain sends out his ruthless team of Inquisitors after Obi-Wan and other runaway Jedi who survived the deadly Order 66.

The limited series has already generated incredible hype and is expected to be one of Star Wars' best thus far. However, it will still be unable to receive a nomination for the 2022 Emmys. Variety has shared that Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn't fall in the eligibility window, which stretches from June 1, 2021, to May 31, 2022. With the series failing to wrap up before the ultimate June 16 voting deadline and highly unlikely to show the 20,000 voters the unseen episodes for fear of leaks and spoilers, the Star Wars series will have to sit out this year's awards. Lucasfilm still has The Book of Boba Fett to hinge on for Emmy consideration, but the exiled Jedi's story will have to sit on the sidelines of the race.

Regardless of what awards it can or can't receive, Obi-Wan Kenobi is expected to be a win for many audiences. The return of McGregor and Christensen alone is a huge reward to viewers who love the acting duo, especially those who grew up with the prequel Star Wars series and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The series has previously been limited to one season, but McGregor and other cast and crew have expressed interest in a season 2 should demand be high enough. The Mandalorian director Deborah Chow took charge of every episode in the series, which has only raised audience expectations ahead of the series' debut. While it's disappointing that Obi-Wan Kenobi won't have a chance to earn acclaim in this way, what will matter most to viewers is finally receiving this untold story of the beloved Jedi.
