NYCC Replaces Marvel's Punisher Panel With Stan Lee Documentary

The marketing plan for Marvel's The Punisher on Netflix was centered around a major reveal at New York Comic Con but due to the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas, Marvel and Netflix agreed it would be inappropriate to present the hyper violent series at the event so soon.

The panel, interviews, and other press opportunities for The Punisher were all canceled as a result, leaving a major gap in NYCC's Saturday prime time schedule, and an open slot in the Madison Square Gardens theater. NYCC organizers were quick to act however, and have already replaced The Punisher with a new panel

New York Comic Con announced a new panel at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Saturday (10/7) starting at 5:15pm: Joe Quesada Presents: My Chat with Stan Lee - An Exclusive Screening. The panel will be take the place of the Netflix/Marvel The Punisher.

Joe Quesada Presents: My Chat with Stan Lee - An Exclusive Screening is the very first screening of Joe's interview with Stan. It takes place Saturday, October 7th – 5:15-7pm at The Theater and Madison Square Garden.

On April 14th 2017, Stan Lee and Joe Quesada sat down for a very intimate and entertaining conversation at the Paley Center to benefit The Hero Initiative. With attendance purposely limited, this extremely candid interview about Stan’s life and Marvel Comics has only been seen and enjoyed by the 125 people that were in the audience that day. Marvel and The Hero Initiative are now providing NYCC attendees with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend an exclusive screening of this interview during which they will get to see Stan answer questions that he has rarely been asked and reveals never-before-heard stories and thoughts on some of the greatest moments in his personal life, professional career, and the history of Marvel.

And if you missed it earlier, here is Marvel and Netflix's joint statement about The Punisher:

We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn't be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.

Our own plans for coverage have of course changed as well and our interviews will take place at a future date. The Punisher's premiere date was kept secret for a potential reveal that it'd be released on Netflix this weekend, but due to circumstances its release is being delayed until later this fall.
