New York Comic Con is set to have an in-person convention in 2021. Comic Cons are held annually at multiple locations worldwide and are dedicated to fans of video games, cosplay, movies, and TV, among many other niche interests. The New York Comic Con, produced by ReedPop Events, was founded in 2006 and is hosted at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Notable guests of the convention over the last 15 years include Star Wars' Billy Dee Williams and the late Carrie Fisher, Jack Black, Nathan Fillion, Lucy Liu, and Stan Lee – the primary writer/creator of Marvel Comics who passed away in 2018. The convention was held virtually in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The New York Comic Con Twitter account announced that an in-person convention will be held this year. The convention is scheduled to happen October 7-10, 2021 at the Javits Center. NYCC Event Director, Kristina Rogers, made the following statement regarding the upcoming event:

Creating a safe, diverse, an accepting space for our community with an unforgettable experience for everyone has always been at the center of everything we do. We have approached our Health and Safety guidelines for our shows with the very same mindset. It's with much optimism and enthusiasm that we look forward to welcoming you back to convention centers around the country, to celebrate the things we all love together.

Rogers went on to add more details regarding the safety protocols that will be required during the event. She stated that NYCC attendees are required to wear face coverings at all times and will receive a temperature check upon entry. Physical distancing and sanitization will also be enforced throughout the venue, Rogers said.

There is no question that fans from all walks of life are excited by the news of an in-person New York Comic Con. While a virtual convention platform may have made attendance for the event more feasible, fans undoubtedly miss the camaraderie of in-person events – especially the large segment of fans who attend NYCC dressed in elaborate costumes. Additionally, by preemptively disclosing their enhanced safety precautions with the general public months prior, ReedPop assures its guests that the convention will remain safe and socially distant for all while maintaining its integrity. New York Comic Con is sure to be well-attended this coming fall.
