The Nun is a movie always looking for one more scare - does it hide another after the credits? The ghostly figure known as Valak was first introduced in The Conjuring 2 as a demonic spirit taunting paranormal hunter Lorainne Warren and haunting a house in Enfield. Although it was defeated, the character proved so popular it's now got a prequel spinoff from director Corin Hardy.
The Nun is set in 1950s rural Romania, centering on a seemingly deserted gothic monastery. When a nun is found hung, the Catholic Church sends "miracle hunter" Farther Burke (Demián Bichir) and trainee Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) to investigate. Unsurprisingly, they find something truly horrifying in the winding hallways: Valak itself. By the end of the movie, the Nun is seemingly defeated, although survival for the events of The Conjuring 2 is assured. Is there any greater threat to come?
RELATED: The TRUE Story Behind The Nun
If you're waiting for a tease of where The Conjuring universe is going next, you're going to be in for a disappointment: The Nun does not have a post-credits scene. There are some creepy effects over the first portion of the credits, and the horror music is a suitable cap to a viewing, but there isn't any more story or scares.
This may surprise long-standing Conjuring fans. While the two main movies and Annabelle didn't have anything extra, last year's Annabelle: Creation ended with a short scene teasing The Nun, showing her in the abbey hallways. It's thus a shame to see this movie not continue the trend.
That said, there's not necessarily a Nun future to tease. The Nun 2 is sure to happen if this film is a big hit - as all previous entries have been - but as it stands the story is pretty well tied up: The Nun beelines right into The Conjuring, which sets up Valak's antagonistic presence in the sequel. There's not really anything more to tease that the main movie doesn't do already.

Of course, The Nun isn't the only franchise strand to continue. In the future of the Warrens is The Conjuring 3, while Annabelle is also set for another sequel in 2019 and The Conjuring 2's Crooked Man also has a spinoff in the works. None of these have release dates yet, though, so it may not be wise to overstate. After all, The Nun offers plenty of horror itself.
