DC's future Wonder Woman, Nubia is the central focus of a new variant cover for her new series Nubia and the Amazons #1This will be first series focused predominantly on the newest Queen of Themyscira. In a recently revealed variant for the debut issue, Nubia appears absolutely stunning and regal.

Nubia debuted in 1973, but has recently been making a major comeback. She began appearing with more frequency in Wonder Woman during DC's Rebirth period. She then gained a much larger role with the start of Infinite Frontier. Nubia is now the Queen of Themyscira and based on the events of Future Stateshe will also be taking up the mantle of Wonder Woman.

Recently, DC announced that Nubia would be headlining her own series, Nubia and the Amazons. Now, a variant cover for the series has been revealed on Twitter by Joshua Swaby. This cover is one of two new variants, with the second being done by Maika Sozo. It shows the strength and beauty of Themyscira's new queen, who is ruling while Hippolyta takes Diana's place on the Justice League. Diana has been missing since she died at the end of Dark Nights: Death Metal, leaving her mother and her sisters in Themyscira to take up new roles and face dangers differently than they have in recent years. Check out Swaby's astonishing cover here:

Nubia is radiant and standing on her own. She has a look that is all her own, independent of both Hippolyta and Diana. While she wears the crown, she is still paving a path that is distinctly hers. This cover features her with the asymmetrical armor that she has been wearing in other Infinite Frontier appearances, such as Wonder Girl #1. Her hair is long, but braided, another distinct difference from the other Wonder Women that adds to her beauty and helps her stand out. She is also wearing traditional Amazon bracelets, with a few extra gold bands and bangles on her arm and wrist. Her outfit is blue, lacking any of the red, purple, or white that is part of Diana and Hippolyta's traditional outfits. It is also thinner, allowing her more room to move around than some of Hippolyta's royal garb appeared to. Despite each of these differences, she still maintains all the fierceness, strength, and traditional gold accents of the Amazons.

Nubia had a relatively long absence from comics, but she is certainly beginning to make up for it. This Amazon is stealing the spotlight and proving that she deserves to have a more prominent role in Themyscira's present and future. She is as much of a hero as her sisters and it's great to see her taking this stand. She is strong, powerful, and based on her trial to become queen, fearless. Formerly, she was a protector of Doom's Doorway, which was rarely seen as the adventures of Diana were more focused elsewhere. Now, Nubia's past and future are being fleshed out in greater detail. The home of the Amazons is known for being an island of great warriors, so it's great to see more of them get their time to shine. Themyscira's queen, Nubia - DC's new Wonder Woman - is ready to slay the challenges that lay ahead of her. Nubia and the Amazons #1 will release on October 5, 2021.
