Zoey Deutch and Dylan O’Brien star in the teaser trailer for Not Okay, Hulu’s upcoming satire film. Having previously worked together in the gangster drama The Outfit, Deutch and O’Brien reunited for a very different kind of movie. First gaining traction back in August, as fans reacted to O’Brien sporting blonde hair and fake tattoosNot Okay was described as the story of a young woman (played by Deutch) who, in her misguided attempts to find fame and friends, ends up faking a trip to Paris. She hopes the trip will give a boost to her social media presence. However, a terrifying incident occurs in the real world and becomes part of the otherwise fake trip. By all accounts, it didn’t seem like the comedy would feature a lead character that would be easy to root for.

The new teaser trailer for Not Okay, shared by Searchlight Pictures, leans into the unlikability of its protagonist and even features a cheeky warning to that effect at the beginning of the teaser. Deutch’s character, known as Danni, is so unlikeable that it seems like she’s become both a pariah and a laughing stock in online circles. The trailer also shows more of O’Brien, as the blonde-haired Colin. You can check it out below.

Written and directed by Quinn Shephard, who previously helmed the 2017 drama Blame, the satire also stars Embeth Davidtz, Brennan Brown, Karan Soni, Nadia Alexander, Tia Dionne Hodge, Negin Farsad, Sarah Yarkin, Dash Perry, and Mia Isaac. Not Okay will be released by Searchlight Pictures on Hulu on July 29.

The official synopsis for Not Okay reads as follows: Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch), an aimless aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and — worst of all — no followers, fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris in the hopes of boosting her social media clout. When a terrifying incident strikes the City of Lights, Danni unwittingly falls into a lie bigger than she ever imagined. She “returns” a hero, even striking up an unlikely friendship with Rowan (Mia Isaac), a school-shooting survivor dedicated to societal change, and scooping up the man of her dreams Colin (Dylan O’Brien). As an influencer and advocate, Danni finally has the life and audience she always wanted. But it’s only a matter of time before the facade cracks, and she learns the hard way that the Internet loves a takedown.
