In an interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused YouTube channel, Nope creator Jordan Peele hinted that Nope's sequel's scariest scenes will be even scarier than the first. Though Peele claimed during the interview he had only begun writing, it was clear that he had some preliminary thoughts about a sequel, and how to build upon the mystery of Jean Jacket. According to Peele, Jean Jacket is designed after an angel in the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion that is modeled after descriptions of angels in the Book of Revelation. Jean Jacket shapeshifted into many forms, and was eventually destroyed by OJ (Daniel Kaluuya).

Horowitz asked the movie's burning questions like the nature of Jean Jacket and the meaning of the upright shoe, segueing into a discussion about the possibility and nature of a Nope sequel. Because of Jean Jacket's complicated biology, and the possibility for a return of either that creature or others like it, there is a strong possibility more could return with a vengeance, demonstrating more intricate capabilities to capture and kill their prey. Though a few scenes were unsettling at best, like when Gordy attacked his castmates, and when Jean Jacket dropped its scarlet waste on the Haywood House, Peele seemed to imply there may be more to come.

Nope 2 May Have Even More Monster Scenes

At this point Nope 2 could be anything - it could be a richer story about the Haywoods and their battle with aliens, it could be a culmination of Peele's movie universe, or it could be something more disturbing altogether. Peele left the door open for scarier monster scenes in a sequel. By focusing heavily on the psychology of the characters as well as spectacle, Nope's theme, Peele has allowed himself the freedom to go anywhere he pleases in the next installment. During his interview with Horowitz, Peele implied that because Nope focuses on a monster we know very little about, that in a next installment, the horror stakes may well be raised.

“I didn't want to be sort of literal that Jean Jacket or this occulonimbus species is an angel, but I do think that there is something about where evolution and design collide that leaves doors open that may or may not be answered in the future," Peele said during Horowitz's interview. And with critical acclaim from his filmmaking peers, Peele will only be encouraged to dive deeper into the origin and capabilities of his otherworldly seraphim and how it might further interact with human or animal species. If the franchise continues to take the biblical route, there would be unlimited possibilities for scary scenes.

Showing More Of Nope's Monster Could Break A Horror Movie Trend

To maintain the suspense in any horror franchise, the villain or monster must remain in the shadows. The less the audience knows about the creature's backstory, the better. In addition to physically keeping viewers in the dark, some might suggest Peele also keep his monster in the dark to maintain the mystery, suspense, and overall ability to frighten. Peele has definitely succeeded in creating curiosity through and after the release of Nope, and viewer theories abound. That curiosity would translate quite nicely to box office numbers for audiences thirsting for answers about Jean Jacket, its world, and Peele's movie universe. Learning a potentially complicated backstory may draw audiences in further.

A deeper dive into Peele's monster may not only pull Nope's story together, but also tighten a potential connection between Get Out, Us, and Nope. It's possible Jean Jacket was existing peacefully during Nope. It would be interesting to see how these creatures (if it turns out to be multiple creatures) behave under stress or attack. It would be interesting to see what happens after this sort of creature is destroyed, whether is goes away forever, or if something, somewhere moves in to seek revenge. According to the Bible, angels are extremely intelligent. It is possible that Jean Jacket, though it behaved quite simply, could become more sophisticated or deadly.
