Tired of powerful smartphones that can do everything and the kitchen sink? Nokia just launched a new version of its iconic 'brick' phone from the early 2000s. Looking at Nokia's portfolio today, the company has clearly changed a lot in recent years. Once a pioneer in the mobile tech space, Nokia is now a brand focused on creating mid-to-low range Android phones. They aren't necessarily bad, but a new Nokia release in 2021 doesn't cultivate the same hype and excitement it once used to.

Two decades ago, however, Nokia was at the top of its game. The company launched the Nokia 3310 in September 2000, followed up by the Nokia 6310 in late 2001. Both phones became immediately known for their endless battery life and incredible durability — giving them the nicknames of 'brick' phones. All these years later, the 3310 and 6310 remain some of the most iconic phones Nokia's ever released.

For anyone who longs for those simpler times, Nokia has something just for you. In honor of the phone's 20th anniversary, Nokia just released a modernized version of the Nokia 6310. It has the same candy bar shape, physical buttons, and weeks of battery life with just a single charge. As Nokia describes on its website, "The new Nokia 6310 takes the iconic silhouette of the original and brings it up to date with some great new additions."

How The New Nokia 6310 Compares To The Original

Old and new Nokia 6310 phones next to each other

While the updated Nokia 6310 has a striking resemblance to its iconic sibling, Nokia did make a few upgrades across the board. The old Nokia 6310 has a tiny 1.8-inch monochrome display. The new one increases it to 2.8 inches and adds color to it as well. The RAM has also been slightly improved. Compared to the 174Kb of memory on the original 6310, the new version is equipped with 16Mb — a modest increase of around 919 percent. Nokia's also added a couple of new features that weren't available before, such as a wireless FM radio and the ability to zoom in on menus for easier readability.

Don't worry, though. While the new Nokia 6310 is obviously more capable than its predecessor, it still keeps the core elements of what made the original so great. Durability-wise, Nokia says the new 6310 is protected by a "tough polycarbonate shell." It also has "weeks" of battery per charge, and comes with the iconic Snake game right out of the box. There's no Twitter, YouTube, or TikTok here. Just a sturdy, long-lasting phone that's reminiscent of days past.

Even better? Anyone in the United Kingdom can buy one for themselves. Head to the Nokia website, choose between a black or yellow color, and the new Nokia 6310 can be yours for £59.99. It certainly won't replace an iPhone or Android handset, but as a companion phone or a fun collectible, the new Nokia 6310 is pretty great.
