Nobody director Ilya Naishuller discusses the possibility of a John Wick crossover in the future. Both Nobody and John Wick were written by Derek Kolstad, who is also currently working on Disney+'s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as an executive producer and as a writer on the upcoming video game adaptation Just Cause. After the debut of its trailer, Nobody immediately drew comparisons to John Wick for its plot about a former assassin pulled back into the brutal world he thought he had left behind.

Work is currently underway on John Wick 4, with a fifth movie also in development. The two were originally meant to be shot back-to-back, but plans have changed. There is also a television spinoff of the John Wick series in the works, centered around the Continental, the in-universe hotel for assassins. The franchise is going strong after John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum was the series' highest grossing film yet, netting $326 million worldwide against a $75 million budget.

Nobody is a smaller film by comparison, but it has the potential to get a lot bigger. Naishuller, who also directed 2015's Hardcore Henry, told IndieWire that "everything's possible" when asked about a potential crossover with John Wick and Nobody. He implored audiences to looks at the films' respective studios and then determine whether or not a shared universe could be a possibility. Still, as Naishuller says, "Stranger things have definitely happened."

I love when the people ask, ‘Is it the same universe?' I’m like, ‘Alright, I can’t say anything. But what you could do is look at which studio made which movie and then think about the reality of doing a crossover.’ That’s all I’ll say. I mean, everything’s possible. Stranger things have definitely happened, but… yeah.

Whether or not a crossover happens depends on a few factors, but, as Naishuller says, looking at the studios behind each film gives an idea of if it could happen. John Wick's home studio is Lionsgate while Nobody is a Universal production. Still, like Naishuller says, stranger things most certainly have occurred in Hollywood and now it may depend on how successful Nobody is, something that will be hard to gauge in the current theatrical landscape. While the film has been received well by critics, Nobody pulled in only $6.7 million in its opening weekend. Still, with its $16 million budget, it looks like Nobody will at least surpass its production budget.

Money won't be the only factor, though. The character's creators may have a say and although Kolstad is no longer involved with John Wick, he has already indicated what kind of crossover he would want if the world of Nobody were to collide with his first major film franchise. Kolstad envisions it more as a passing moment, one where John and Hutch slyly acknowledge each other while walking by, rather than a full-on event, and that just might be the best for everyone.
