Nobody 2 Already Has An Opening Scene, Says Screenwriter

Nobody director Ilya Naishuller confirms that the Nobody 2 script is already being written. Penned by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, this year's action flick Nobody was a surprise hit. The film stars Bob Odenkirk as average family-man Hutch Mansell, who accidentally becomes the target of a vengeful drug lord after defending a woman on a bus being harassed by a group of men.

The film was initially supposed to hit theaters in August 2020 but, like many, was pushed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite releasing in March amid the pandemic, Nobody took home $26 million domestically on a $16 million budget and received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences, who particularly praised the impressive action sequences and Odenkirk's performance. The film released digitally and on VOD in April and had many wondering if Hutch's story was going to be continued. In April, Kolstad revealed that he already has an opening scene in mind for Nobody 2.

Now, speaking with JoBlo, Nobody director Ilya Naishuller revealed that a script for the sequel is already being written. While Naishuller clarified that a sequel is not definite yet as it has not been greenlit, Kolstad is already working to continue Hutch's journey.

There's plenty of stories that can be told in this world, with the character Hutch. I know that Derek (Kolstad - the writer) has begun work on the sequel... Whether it'll happen, time will tell, but all the necessary seeds have been planted.

Nobody post credit end credit scene

When asked about whether Connie Nielsen, who played Hutch's wife Becca in the film, would be part of the action this time around, Naishuller replied that that idea was "right on the money." While a sequel has not yet been greenlit, it's no surprise that one is in the works. After an action-packed finale, Nobody ended with Hutch and his wife seemingly settling down to buy a new home, when Hutch receives a mysterious phone call that pulls him back into the business. A mid-credits scene also hinted at a sequel by showing Hutch and his retired FBI agent father (played by Christopher Lloyd) driving to an undisclosed location in an RV packed with weapons, likely related to the phone call.

As Nobody was written by Kolstad, who also wrote the John Wick movies, Nobody 2 could turn it into a full-blown action franchise in the style of the Keanu Reeves led franchise. It also sets up the first film as an origin story for Hutch, with later movies potentially focusing on Hutch balancing his family life with his work as an assassin. It could also, as Naishuller hinted, incorporate Becca more into Hutch's work. Those who enjoyed the Nobody's combination of John Wick style action and Odenkirk's everyman humor are likely pleased to hear that a script is already in the works and that they will get to see more of Hutch's story and intense fight scenes soon.
