Charlie Cox explains how it felt to film his cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film from series director Jon Watts featured a number of exciting appearances, using the multiverse storytelling device to incorporate characters from Sony's two previous Spider-Man franchises. Cox, however, didn't require a Doctor Strange spell-gone-wrong to explain his inclusion, with the actor reprising his role as Matt Murdock from Netflix's popular Marvel series Daredevil.

The scene involves Murdock speaking to Peter Parker (Tom Holland), Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) about representation for the legal case that Peter has become involved in. Though Cox doesn't don his Daredevil suit for the cameo, appearing instead in his capacity as a lawyer, he does get to show off his superhuman reflexes by catching a brick flying through a window. The moment confirmed for Marvel fans that the studio is interested in incorporating Daredevil characters after the show spent years in MCU limbo.

In an interview with THR, Cox speaks about his No Way Home filming experience, which he says was pretty comfortable. Even though he hasn't played the character since Daredevil was cancelled in 2018, his familiarity with Matt Murdock made slipping back into the role fairly easy. He was a little nervous to actually film the scene, however, which he notes hasn't happened in some time. Check out the full quote here:

I felt pretty comfortable being able to fit into that scene. [...] I played the character almost every day for four years. I feel like his essence is deep within me now. I didn’t worry too much about it, but I was still pretty nervous on the day, which I haven’t been for a while.

Peter Parker looking sad in Spider-Man No Way Home

While fans were overjoyed to see Murdock be part of No Way Home, there was a missed opportunity to build out the world of Daredevil more concretely. Daredevil and Spider-Man have close ties in the comics, evidenced by Cox’s recent comments about Daredevil potentially showing up in Spider-Man 4. Keeping his role minimal in this film, as well as not including any other characters from the Daredevil series, perhaps left some exciting storylines unrealized.

However, Cox’s time in the MCU might not be over quite yet. There have been rumors for quite some time now that Echo, a Disney+ Hawkeye spinoff focusing on the character of the same name (played by Alaqua Cox), would introduce Daredevil and his supporting characters more firmly. Murdock is also rumored to be showing up in She-Hulk, which is set to premiere later this year, and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin was already a major part of Hawkeye. Hopefully, the MCU will have plenty of time to solidify Daredevil’s popular supporting cast and establish them alongside the other heroes.
