Daniel Craig says that the script for No Time To Die was constantly being adjusted while they were filming the upcoming movie. Craig's fifth and final outing as James Bond has faced a long road to theaters - initially slated for release in April 2020, No Time To Die was one of the first movies delayed because of the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. MGM aimed for a November 2020 release before moving it to the spring 2021 when conditions didn't improve. Now, No Time To Die is set to debut in October, but with the moviegoing business facing renewed fears because of the rise of the Delta variant, it's unclear whether or not the film will be delayed again.
No Time To Die is directed by Cary Fukunaga, the first American director to helm a Bond film. In addition to Craig, Léa Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, and Christoph Waltz will all be reprising their roles from previous Bond films. Joining them are Rami Malek as No Time To Die's villain, Ana de Armas as a CIA agent who helps Bond on his mission, and Lashana Lynch as a new 007 agent whose path will cross Bond's. Little is known about No Time To Die's plot save for that it will involve some sort of betrayal involving Seydoux's Madeleine Swann and be a culmination of Craig's story as the iconic spy.
That mystery surrounding the plot may be due to an interesting tidbit revealed by Craig in a new video, though. A new No Time To Die podcast, previewed on the official James Bond YouTube channel, will dive to deep into the production of the new film. In addition to clips from the film, at one point Craig reveals in voiceover that they "were constantly adjusting and readjusting the script" during production of the film.
It's no surprise that No Time To Die's script was constantly changing - the film itself changed hands multiple times, with various screenwriters and even a different director brought on board before Fukunaga was finally settled on. There's also a lot riding on the film. With Bond's story more serialized than ever before, the pressure to complete the story of Craig's character is high as the plot continues to thread in emotional revelations dating all the way back to his first film, Casino Royale.
Some think this will result in the death of James Bond, with Craig's character going out with a bang as the franchise plans to usher in his successor. Who that could be remains a mystery - the producers behind the franchise are staying mum, choosing to focus on No Time To Die rather than shift focus to who will take on the iconic role next. One thing is clear, though. Whoever does step in after Craig will have big shoes to fill.
