The second trailer for No Time To Die has been released, and the new James Bond 25 footage leaves plenty of questions in its wake about the movie's characters and story. No Time To Die will mark the fifth and final outing for Daniel Craig's James Bond, before he hangs up his martini glass and drives his Aston Martin off into the sunset - or before he gets killed. Originally set for release in April 2020, the film suffered a delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, with it currently slated for release on November 20, 2020 in the United States.

That delay has also led to a halt in marketing: the first No Time To Die trailer arrived all the way back in December 2019, before a follow-up teaser arrived at the Super Bowl in February 2020. Since then, however, there's been little in the way of marketing, or at least there wasn't until the second No Time To Die trailer arrived. marking the start of a new promotional push for the movie, the new Bond trailer offers viewers a much better look at what to expect from the film.

The new No Time To Die trailer teases several major elements, including the villain plan of Safin (Rami Malek), the secrets held by Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), and what's happened at MI6 in Bond's retirement, and how his return will change things once again. With the marketing focusing on hints and suggestion, there are lots of questions arising from it.

Is Safin Actually Dr. No?

No Time To Die Rami Malek as Safin and Dr Julius No

One of the most prevalent theories throughout the marketing campaign for No Time To Die has been the idea that Rami Malek's Safin is actually classic Bond villain Dr. No, serving as a surprise new take on the character in much the same way Christoph Waltz's turn as Ernst Stavro Blofeld was Spectre's worst kept secret. The first trailer hinted at the connections between the pair, and the new one doubles down on the idea: be it the clothes, the lairs, the movie's title, or the villainous plans to remake the world in their image, with both playing God as it were, there are several similarities between them. The new No Time To Die trailer teases more of Safin's plan, and it does fit with the notion of him being Dr. No. However, there are some key differences too - such as Safin not having metallic hands, which Dr. No does - but that doesn't necessarily rule it out completely. Malek has refused to confirm or deny it, so this one (hopefully) won't be revealed until the movie itself.

What Is Safin's Villain Plan?

Safin looks on from No Time To Die

Speaking of Safin, as mentioned the new No Time To Die trailer offers up a few more tantalizing hints of just what he's up to, without going so far as confirming his intentions. It's clear he is planning something very large-scale, and he makes mention of the fact that he "eradicate[s] people to make the world a better place" and that he just wants it to be a little "tidier". It's possible that this involves some sort of nuclear weaponry, which is backed up by the idea of him killing "millions" and there being "nothing left to save" if they don't stop him. It's possible, based on Safin's goals, that he wants to wipe out the world to remake it in his image, perhaps via genetic mutations or even cloning itself. Some theories posit that Safin himself might be a clone, and again it's impossible to rule out at this stage.

What Is Madeleine Swann's History With Safin?

A key aspect of No Time To Die's marketing has been Madeleine Swann's secret - something that, if it gets out, will change everything for James Bond, and possibly be too much for him to handle. Thankfully that is still very much being kept a secret right now, but the trailer hints that it is connected to Safin, with links drawn between the pair as Swann picks up and looks at a box with his broken mask in it. It's clear at this point that Safin is sending her a message, further hinting at the past between them. One possibility is that this ties back to Spectre, and the man Madeleine mentioned: "A man once came to our house to kill my father. He didn't know I was upstairs playing in my bedroom." Is Safin this man? If so, that further ties into the possibility of him being a clone or not ageing, but it might also link into Swann's secret, and that she perhaps was forced to help Safin or give something important up to him.

Is Lashana Lynch The New 007?

Lashana Lynch as Nomi in No Time To Die

The No Time To Die trailer once again continues to tease the possibility of Lashana Lynch's Nomi being James Bond's MI6 replacement, with him referring to her as the "new 00-". It stops just short yet again of actually confirming the codename, though there have long been rumors that she is indeed the new 007. Given the way the marketing is deliberately avoiding using her codename, it does make sense that Lynch would be the new 007 (otherwise, why hide it?), which is similarly logic given that Bond has been retired 5 years by the time of No Time To Die.

Is Felix Suggesting The CIA/MI6 Is Compromised?

Felix reunites with Bond in No Time To Die

Jeffrey Wright's CIA Agent Felix Leiter is back for one last go-around too in No Time To Die, and the two old friends catch-up out in the field. While Felix is recruiting Bond once again into a new mission, there's also a suggestion that things have changed in his absence, as Felix notes that it's "harder to tell the good from bad, heroes from villains" these days. This hints at a sense of corruption, perhaps, within either the CIA or MI6 (or even both), which is no doubt making his job a whole lot harder. One option is that Blofeld, while in prison, has assumed some sense of control over MI6, which could tie into the order of operatives not acting as the good guys.

Is Ana De Armas' Bond Girl A Hero or Villain?

Ana de Armas in No Time To Die

Knives Out's Ana de Armas plays Paloma in No Time To Die, James Bond 25's updated take on the traditional Bond girl role. Little has been revealed about her character so far, though this trailer does peel back the curtain a little more: she's an associate of Felix who Bond is paired up with. That it's Felix who sets them up suggests she will simply be on the side of good, which is what the trailer shows, but it's also notable that the footage cuts to her when he's given his speech about telling the heroes from the villains. Bond girls are often associated with the bad guys, so it wouldn't be too much of a surprise if there's far more to her than meets the eye here.

How Much Is Blofeld In No Time To Die (Is He The Real Villain)?

No Time To Die Trailer daniel Craig as James Bond and Christoph Waltz as Blofeld

While expected, the first trailer for No Time To Die confirmed the return of Blofeld, with him imprisoned by MI6, yet appearing to serve an almost Hannibal-esque role. He's less prominent in the new trailer, though he does have a few familiar lines and warnings to Bond about Madeleine's secret. Contrasted with the first trailer, this puts much more focus on Safin and far less on Blofeld, which once again raises the question of who the real villain is: is Safin truly the main threat to be stopped, or is Blofeld the person pulling the strings from his prison cell? Given he's one of the major Bond villains and this is Craig's final outing, then it would make sense for Blofeld to have another sizeable role, quietly controlling things even despite being locked away.

Will Daniel Craig's James Bond Die?

No Time To Die Daniel Craig as James Bond 007

The biggest question of all regarding No Time To Die is just how it'll handle Daniel Craig's exit from the franchise. No James Bond actor has been killed off before, but there's also never been a Bond quite like Craig, with his era giving him a true arc and focusing more on continuity than ever before. That arguably makes it a little trickier to follow-on while the character lives, and there's plenty of speculation that he will be killed off to provide a more definitive end for him. The new No Time To Die trailer certainly includes plenty of shots of 007 in peril, while there's also a sense of weariness to the character in parts, which fits with him being forced out of retirement for one last mission. Whether he dies or not, No Time To Die is shaping up to be a fitting send-off for Craig's James Bond.
