The creators of the latest Switch exclusive, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, reveal that there is no set Kirby timeline like the Legend of Zelda series. Most Kirby games have seen the pink hero in creative and fun 2D action/platforming adventures. The newest game puts Kirby in a 3D world for the Nintendo Switch, in a style more similar to Super Mario Odyssey than any previous Kirby title. Early trailers instantly made fans excited to absorb enemies and try some of Kirby's new powers.

Previous Kirby games have allowed the pink protagonist to inhale enemies and use their techniques. Kirby and the Forgotten Land will enable players to do that while also taking that idea in another direction. The adorable hero has previously had trouble absorbing objects considerably larger than himself. Forgotten Land introduces a Mouthful Mode, with Kirby fitting himself over large objects like cars or vending machines to help him traverse the big new world and battle enemies. The new world and mechanics featured in Forgotten Land are so captivating that many fans wonder where the latest adventure fits into the Kirby storyline. A recent interview with the game's creators has shed some light on the mysterious Kirby canon.

The creators and developers of Kirby and the Forgotten Land have revealed that there is no set Kirby timeline between the series' many titles. In an interview with The Washington Post, the general director of HAL Laboratory, Shinya Kumazaki, was asked if the series had a specific timeline similar to the Zelda series. He responded, "there is no clear timeline for the game stories. This is to avoid being constrained by past settings." Certain story elements and characters often carry over from previous Kirby titles if they help improve the new game. Still, a deep knowledge of the series lore is not required to enjoy each title.

One of the series' main antagonists, King Dedede, does star in many of the games. Kumazaki stresses that each game's story would be hindered if Dedede had to be re-introduced to Kirby for the first time in each game. This method of story-telling allows each new Kirby game to stand on its own and continuously surprise and delight its players of all ages.

By not having an overall Kirby timeline to consider, each new game is unrestricted to tell whatever story helps the mechanics and features of the game be as fun as possible. The plot has never been a major focus throughout the series. Each Kirby game focuses on creating a colorful and fun new experience. According to reviews, Kirby and the Forgotten Land is all of that and more. It's nice to know that fans don't need to worry about deep lore connections and can instead focus on having fun with Kirby in his newest adventure.
