Like all games in Souls-like genre, there are a huge number of impressive enemies for players to face off against in Nioh. Bringing each of the different types of enemies down will require that players understand that enemy's combat abilities as well as their own strengths and weaknesses. Each fight will necessitate that the player employ a different strategy if they hope to survive in this game for very long.

Where this becomes even more important for players is when they go up against one of Nioh's many bosses. These enemies are much stronger than standard enemy types and typically have unique abilities that present challenges for the player to overcome in combat. The very first boss that players will need to fight in Nioh is Derrick the Executioner, who is capable of powerful attacks that can deplete the player's health in just a few hits. This guide shows players how to defeat Derrick the Executioner.

Nioh: How to Defeat Derrick The Executioner

Since Derrick is the first boss of the game and the player faces off against him at the end of the tutorial level, this means that they won't have many options to customize their playstyle. They can decide what weapon to use against the boss though. The best weapon to use to fight Derrick is the axe since it deals a lot more damage than other types, and its slower speed won't cause many issues since Derrick leaves himself open often. The trick to defeating this boss is to wait until leaves himself open to attack.

During the first phase, Derrick will employ two different attacks. One is a charge attack that allows him to build up power in the axe before hitting the player hard. The other attack is a combo where he swings the axe back and forth three times and then does an overhead slam attack. With all of these attacks the player will want to dodge to the left or right to avoid taking damage. Right after dodging the attacks, there will be a few moments where Derrick isn't moving, which allows the player to rush in a pull of a quick combo. Just continue doing this until the second part of the fight.

During the second phase Derrick the Executioner will pick up a brand new ability. He will drop his head and charge directly at the player to deal a large amount of harm to them. The player will need to dodge left or right at the last moment and then attack the boss from behind. Players will just need to keep this up until their Living Weapon has finished charging to finish the boss off for good.
