Nioh 2’s next DLC, Darkness in the Capital, will be introducing a whole lot of new content into the game, including a new fist weapon that was shown off in a recently released gameplay video. The upcoming major DLC was announced last week by developer Team Ninja in the midst of this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2020, which was turned into an online event due to the ongoing global pandemic crisis.

Darkness in the Capital is the second major DLC for Nioh 2. The first DLC, The Tengu's Disciple, was released last July and began a new storyline for the game which saw the protagonist travel back in time to search for the previous holder of Sohayamaru, the sword the player acquires at the end of the game. The Tengu’s Disciple also introduced its own new weapon type called the split-staff as well as a new area, new enemies, and more. A third DLC is also expected to be released in the future, in similar fashion to the first Nioh game.

The new hand-to-hand weapon coming with the Darkness in the Capital DLC was shown off during Koei Tecmo’s TGS 2020 Online stream. The footage, which shows the player in the Demon Parade Picture Scroll mission, gives us a good glimpse of the new tekko-kagi, or ninja claw, weapon and its brutal moveset. With the new claw weapon, players will be able to execute quick attacks as well as perform certain moves such as an array of kicks, leaps, backflips, parries, and what looks like a grab move.

The new claw weapon shows a few similarities to the game’s tonfa weapon and can be considered to be in the same category. Apart from previewing the weapon’s looks and some of its moves, no other information on the new claw weapon has been announced so far. As for the rest of the DLC, Darkness in the Capital is set to continue the storyline of The Tengu’s Disciple and will also introduce new bosses, enemies, Guardian Spirits, Soul Cores, skills, abilities, and more. It will also introduce a new difficulty level as well as a new “ethereal” item tier.

Even with the short preview, it will be exciting to find out more about Nioh 2’s new claw weapon, including its complete moveset and capabilities as well as other possible design variations of the new weapon. Given its incredibly short range, it’ll also be interesting to see how difficult it will be for players to master compared the game's many other weapon types.
