Nintendo Switch owners need to start saving up, because there are apparently some big unannounced releases coming this year. Nintendo's latest console has been a force to be reckoned with on the market, in part thanks to its strong library of games, and as such not only has it already outsold its predecessor Wii U, but it's also now ranked as the fastest-selling console in US history.

Part of this has been the fact that Nintendo has been able to launch a number of very interesting and surprising games for the console, in spite of its status as one of the most well-known companies in the industry. Both the Mario and Zelda releases for the Switch have been major shake-ups on what has come before, while products like the Nintendo Labo interactive toys show the company has a few tricks up its sleeves.

It's likely that the surprises haven't come to a full stop, either, as it's been suggested Nintendo has some shock releases in store for this year. During a recent earnings call, GameStop CEO Mike K. Mauler talked about the upcoming releases for Nintendo's console, and it certainly sounds as though the developer is going to have some surprises in store for gamers over the remainder of 2018.

"I think, this year, when we look at the slate of titles - many of which haven't been announced yet - this year looks also very, very strong," said Mauler as part of the call, when comparing 2018's lineup of games to those successful releases seen last year. "So, I think, at least for 2018, we'll continue to see the strong software slate drive additional install based on the hardware and increase attach rate." As such, it certainly seems as though Nintendo is going to be getting some major releases out of the door this year.

Of course, this report should perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt, as promoting the launch of further games also helps the chances of GameStop making some extra Switch sales in the near future. Nonetheless, this is still a decent indicator that Nintendo has some more games on the way, so perhaps Switch owners should keep an eye out for some surprise releases.

Exactly when Nintendo is going to officially announce these new games, E3 2018 may well be a good bet. The expo will already include the new Super Smash Bros game, but no doubt Nintendo's own update on upcoming releases could be the perfect time to drop some big names into the mix. Either way, let's hope the wait isn't too long to learn more.
