Playing with friends is vital for the full Nintendo Switch Sports experience. When the original Wii Sports was released as the bundle title for the Nintendo Wii, it immediately became a household name. Players from all different generations were able to come together for a few rounds of Tennis or Bowling. Now, Nintendo Switch Sports brings back that ideology with a new coat of paint and a handful of new sports to go along with it. While fan favorites like Bowling and Tennis return in this entry, new sports like soccer and volleyball make their debut on the Nintendo Switch.

Upon booting up the game, players are greeted by three different gameplay options. Choosing 'Play Globally' will send the player online to duke it out with other players around the globe. Although, it's important to mention that the player will need an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to participate. The base-level subscription will work fine for this title, no Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack is needed. The other two options are focused on playing strictly with friends, both locally and online.

To play with friends on Nintendo Switch Sports, choose the Play Locally option, which works with up to four players in a single room. It's the best way to get the full Nintendo Switch Sports experience with those around. Others looking to play online can choose the Play With Friends option. This one allows up to two players per set-up to go online and duke it out with other players. Each sport has its own player cap, so the player count will fluctuate between them. As mentioned, a Nintendo Switch Online membership is needed to use this option. Players can then create a lobby and choose a game mode out of the six sports available.

Competitive Local Gameplay in Nintendo Switch Sports

Currently, there is Volleyball, Badminton, Bowling, Soccer, Chambara, and Tennis, with Golf joining the game as part of a future DLC. Players who are interested in taking the completion online can work towards Pro mode. By defeating others in online games, the player can rise through the rankings. Although the better the player performs, the more difficult their future challenges will become. Winning games will also reward players with points that they can use in the cosmetic shop.

Players can be given the option to customize their own Mii character, either with the classic Wii Sports look or the new modern design of Nintendo Switch Sports. The clothing options will continue to open up the more time the player spends on the game, they will also alternate in the shop every few visits. Taking on the world in an online Bowling match with a friend sounds like an ideal way to experience the game. Matching outfits could look adorable too.
