A Nintendo insider has stated that they believe the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro will support 4K and hit the market this year. Although Nintendo itself has not confirmed the existence of a Switch Pro, various leaks and predictions in the last few months have suggested that the upgraded device will be releasing at some point in the next year or two.

Talk of a Nintendo Switch Pro began last year when Microsoft and Sony were preparing for their respective Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 launches. The newest console generation led gamers to wonder when Nintendo would develop its own console upgrade, considering that the Nintendo Switch has now been on the market for nearly four years. Nintendo of America boss Doug Bowser debunked Switch Pro rumors in a December interview, noting that the Switch Lite was still doing too well to start working on a new device. However, experts and dataminers are still not convinced.

Fans have heard that the Switch Pro is not coming out at all and that it's coming out, but not any time soon. Industry leader Nate Drake is convinced that the newest Switch revision is on its way, and it should be coming this year. In a new forum post on Reset Era, as reported by Wccftech, Drake stated that he is "confident it gets announced this year." He added that "hope remains for a 2021 launch," but if there is any sort of delay until 2022, this should be announced within the next few months. In other words, Drake believes fans should hear something about the Switch Pro this year.

Nintendo Switch Pro Design Price Release Lite

Drake also stated in the forum thread that he is "100 [percent] confident" that the Switch pro will have Nvidia's resolution upgrade tool called DLSS, as well as 4K functionality. Additionally, Drake said the Switch Pro will have an improved portable mode. "That’s enough to illustrate the device is a meaningful upgrade," he said.

Of course, no details about the Switch Pro have been confirmed, so all fans can do right now is take Drake's word for it. For what it's worth, though, Drake's statement does fall in line with dataminer SciresM's Nintendo Switch Pro discoveries last month. According to the datamine, Nintendo's recent firmware update included details on a Realtek chip, which would likely be used for 4K graphics. There was also alleged talk of an improved display and better battery life.

Fans have received conflicting reports on the Switch Pro's release window for months, so everything should be taken with a grain of salt. It does seem logical that Nintendo will eventually develop some sort of Switch Pro or Switch 2 device, but with the original console and the Lite still performing so well, it's hard to say when an upgrade will happen. Analysts do seem sure of one thing, though: when the Nintendo Switch Pro does get released, it will likely outsell the Series X|S and the PS5.
