The Nintendo Switch OLED's launch sales have already surpassed those of the Nintendo Switch Lite's launch week in the UK. The Nintendo Switch OLED model's initial reception was lukewarm due to it not featuring any of the speculated performance upgrades of the rumored Nintendo Switch Pro. However, the Switch OLED does sport a few new features that primarily improve handheld play, including a more vibrant 7" OLED screen capable of true blacks, a redesigned kickstand, and enhanced audio. Even if it's not what was initially hoped for, it does still provide an option for those who have yet to purchase a Switch or are looking to replace their existing consoles.

GfK Entertainment data obtained by GamesIndustry.biz shows that the Nintendo Switch OLED accounted for 70% of Switch sales in the UK during its launch week. The week of October 8 was the 14th highest-performing week for Switch sales in the UK overall, and the revised console overtook the sales of the Switch Lite's own launch week by a wide margin. In contrast, the Switch Lite's launch week was the 57th biggest week in sales for the console line.

A Nintendo Switch OLED launch title, Metroid Dread is the fastest-selling Metroid game to date. It's likely the release of Metroid Dread contributed to the strong start of the Switch OLED, as both released on the same day. Scheduling the Nintendo Switch OLED and major first-party game like Metroid Dread to be made available simultaneously was bound to drive mutual sales, and Nintendo's move has already been shown to have been a successful one. Despite preliminary reactions to the Nintendo Switch OLED being poor, the updated handheld appears to be doing quite well for itself so far.
