Sony and Microsoft are aggressively pushing out brand-new, next-generation consoles at the end of 2020, as expected, but Nintendo is continuing its approach towards the holidays with its extremely successful Nintendo Switch. During the summer, when the details of the PS5 and Xbox Series X were revealed, many gamers noticed an eerie silence from Nintendo. After a few surprise Nintendo Directs and announcements, Nintendo has finally revealed its plans for end-of-the-year Switch games and how it intends to compete with Sony and Microsoft's flashy technology.
Presumably because of the global pandemic, Nintendo has been very quiet throughout the duration of 2020. Luckily for the publisher, Animal Crossing: New Horizons made huge sales in a very short time, and other new titles like Paper Mario: The Origami King and Super Mario 3D All-Stars sold well, too. However, Nintendo is usually far more vocal about its plans for the year, especially during the Switch era.
Certain games coming this holiday will definitely be more popular than others, such as Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, which releases on November 20, or the Switch version of Immortals Fenyx Rising, which will release on December 3. The original Fire Emblem is also releasing in early December, but since it's just a $6 NES title on the eShop, it's likely that Nintendo isn't expecting the game to net boatloads of cash this season.

While many of these titles are shovelware or niche indie games that will interest only a few gamers, the list also includes first-party Nintendo games and several prominent upcoming indie titles. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is Nintendo's big holiday title, but Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Animal Crossing: New Horizons will likely continue flaunting their magic money-printing capabilities before 2021 begins.
Another interesting title to note is Ubisoft's Greek myth-based Immortals Fenyx Rising, since the Switch version launches on the same day its other versions will be released. One complaint some Switch owners frequently have is third party titles often release on the platform months after they've been available on PlayStation or Xbox, and this is an exception to that pattern. However, it seems like Nintendo is mostly relying on its older games to continue to pushing Nintendo Switch consoles for the holiday season, and it's odd to see the company take such a laid-back approach while Sony and Microsoft are bursting out of the gate with next-generation consoles and exclusives.
