Update (6/9/2021 11:50 EDT): A few hours after Nintendo Switch's 12.0.3 firmware update went live, Nintendo temporarily reversed the update due to unintended connectivity issues. In a later tweet, Nintendo  confirmed that the 12.0.3 is once again live. The original story continues below.

A new system update for Nintendo Switch, 12.0.3, is available to download now and supposedly tackles a common eShop error. The eShop glitch in question revolves around error code 2123-1502, which some players encountered when trying to boot up the digital storefront.

As noted by Twitter user OatmealDome, the 123 section of the error code refers to SSL; meanwhile, code 1502 represents "received unexpected handshake from peer." It's all rather mysterious, but anyone who previously ran into this particular eShop glitch should have their problems alleviated thanks to Nintendo Switch's 12.0.3 update. A posting on the Nintendo Support page notes the update went live on June 7 to issue "general system stability improvements." According to OatmealDome, however, the new changes fixed the aforementioned eShop error and boosted secure server connections.

Unfortunately, responses beneath the OatmealDome post indicate some Nintendo Switch users are still receiving the eShop error message even after downloading and installing Update 12.0.3. Others have said they're now receiving the error post-update despite not encountering it previously. Should the issue persist and become widespread, Nintendo may unleash yet another firmware update sooner rather than later.

System stability and improvements aside, Nintendo players have plenty to look forward over the course of the next several days. E3 2021 is nearly upon up, for instance, and the Japanese publisher will take part in a major way. Notably, fans can tune in to a Nintendo Direct and Nintendo Treehouse: Live on June 15 at 9:00 am PT.
