A number of digital Nintendo Switch games are currently on sale on the eShop, including some of the best games available on the console. A selection of first-party games have been marked down to $42 USD, but there are close to 1,000 titles seeing price reductions on the eShop. There's more than one way to take advantage of these deals too, as Amazon, Walmart, GameStop, Target, and Humble Bundle are price-matching some of the titles on sale.

Although the Nintendo Switch eShop runs sales every week, the selection is usually dominated by lesser-known indie games. Nintendo is notoriously stingy when it comes to discounting its first-party titles. Whereas Sony and Microsoft tend to offer permanent price reductions on their first-party games only months after their original release, Nintendo still charges full-price for top-tier titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, both of which have been on the market for years now.

While neither Breath of the Wild or Super Mario Odyssey are included in the current sale, a number of other critically-acclaimed first-party games are. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, Splatoon 2, and Yoshi's Crafted World headline Nintendo's New Year sale, and are all available for $42. Additionally, publishers such as Ubisoft and Capcom have slashed prices on some of their best games, including the surprisingly excellent Switch port of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt ($42) and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle ($15).

One of the more frustrating things about Nintendo Switch sales is that browsing deals on the eShop is kind of a nightmare. Since Nintendo groups all on-sale titles under one massive page, the only way to sort through titles is to scroll down the page, which can be a tedious process. To help save some time, here are our picks for some of the best deals on offer right now:

- Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night -- $28 ($40)

- Civilization VI -- $30 ($60)

- Dragon Ball FighterZ -- $15 ($60)

- Gris -- $8.49 ($17)

- Hotline Miami Collection -- $12.49 ($25)

- Resident Evil 0 -- $15 ($30)

- Resident Evil 4 -- $20 ($40)

Additionally, the Nintendo Switch has become the go-to place to play indie games since its launch in 2017 and unsurprisingly, the New Years' sale is rounded out by a number of deals on popular indie gems. Some of the most noteworthy titles are Celeste ($10), Wargroove ($16), Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition ($14), and Stardew Valley ($10), the latter of which recently received a huge update with tons of new free content.

The New Years' sale is live now on the Nintendo Switch eShop and runs through January 16.
