A new rumor indicates that Metal Gear Solid protagonist Snake will be returning to Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo Switch. After making his Super Smash Bros. debut in 2008's Brawl, the character was absent from the roster in the following installment of the franchise. Snake was one of the many characters fans wanted to see as DLC for the Wii U and 3DS versions of the game, but never made it in.

Nintendo announced in early March that a new Super Smash Bros. game is coming to the Nintendo Switch at some point this year. The game was revealed alongside a trailer that teased appearances from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Link and Splatoon's Inklings. It hasn't been confirmed yet if the game is a port or a new game altogether, though details will be revealed soon, since Nintendo will be bringing Super Smash Bros. to E3, where fans will be able to play the game.

Reddit user Vergeben claims that the game's new roster will feature Solid Snake and content related to Minecraft. The same user previously stated that all 58 characters from the last game would be returning, along with new additions Ridley and Castlevania's Simon Belmont.

Based on Vergeben's history, the credibility of this new rumor is difficult to determine. Vergeben's "leaks" are hit-and-miss. Some have proven to be accurate, while others have proven to be false. Vergeben correctly predicted that the Ninja Turtles would join Injustice 2 as DLC, which seems too left-field to be a wild guess. Vergeben talked about Soul Calibur 6 and Devil May Cry 5 prior to any other reporting. The user also started the rumor about a new Star Fox racing game that is beginning to pick up steam. According to Vergeben, a Nintendo Switch port for Dragon Ball FighterZ will be announced. Though this rumor has not been confirmed, the claim has been backed up by other outlets.

On the other hand, Vergeben "leaked" a roster for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite that included Green Goblin, Ms. Marvel, Doctor Doom, Star-Lord, and various members of the X-Men. However, none of these characters made it into the game. Vergeben has also been wrong about certain characters joining Street Fighter 5.

Some fans doubt the credibility of Vergeben's Super Smash Bros. leaks based on the rumor pertaining to Ridley. Nintendo has stated that Ridley is too large to work as a playable character in a Super Smash Bros. game. Unless Nintendo has changed their minds, fans should take Vergeben's information with a great deal of salt.
