A new leak from Nintendo reveals specifications for the never-before-seen Iris, a planned successor to the Game Boy Advance. The leaks revealed a trove of interesting new information, but Iris is by far the most intriguing, considering that the system was scrapped when Nintendo began working on the Nintendo DS. This is just one of several major leaks from Nintendo in the last several months.

Back in July, there was a massive source code leak from Nintendo that fans are still sorting through two months later. Pieces of Nintendo history like the source code for A Link to The Past, Star Fox and even F-Zero were among the leaks. It was discovered that Nintendo originally intended to have Luigi in Super Mario 64. Earlier this month, leakers managed to uncover another abandoned console idea - a portable GameCube system that had a docking system for the TV. This should sound incredibly similar to anyone who owns a Switch, and it's interesting to see that Nintendo was developing that same idea so long ago.

Today's leak was sorted through by Twitter users LuigiBlood and WaluigiBSOD. Both users pointed out the inclusion of IRIS, but WaluigiBSOD gave some more insight into what was included in the leak. The documents reportedly show that IRIS would have been similar to the Game Boy in its design, but would have included some of the hardware that wound up in the Nintendo DS. It wouldn't have come with many of the classic DS features like the touchscreen, internet capabilities, or the microphone.

LuigiBlood, on the other hand, focused on some of the other information to be revealed in this leak. Among that were the ROMs for both Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Pokemon Ranger, which will make things much simpler for those who wish to mod these games or dig into their code. There were also some tools for the DS that leaked as well, which it's assumed would also help modders. LuigiBlood points out that not much is known at the moment what all of these files could mean going forward, but that they are currently working to find out.

With the amount of information that comes out of these Nintendo leaks, it's hard to keep track of what all they contain. Some of the info is nothing that the general public didn't already know or have access to, but much of it completely changes what fans know about Nintendo's work both present and past. There are sure to be bigger developments to come out of this leak in the coming days.
