Japanese video game company Nintendo has announced an all-new Nintendo Gallery, which is a video game museum that will be located in Japan. The Uji Ogura Plant is being converted into an all-new gallery that will showcase the entire history of the company and the many products and franchises that have led to Nintendo’s success over the years.

Nintendo is considered to be one of the three major companies in the gaming industry, alongside Sony and Microsoft. It is one of the three companies to develop and release a gaming console on a regular basis, alongside video game releases. Nintendo can be traced back to 1889, starting as a playing card manufacturer before moving onto video games in 1977. The Nintendo Switch is Nintendo’s fastest-selling console and has surpassed all previous Nintendo consoles in sales to date. Some of the biggest franchises in the video game industry have come from Nintendo, including Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Pokémon and Kirby.

In a recent press announcement, Nintendo Co. announced that the company will be building a video game museum in Kyoto devoted to the history of Nintendo, with a whole gallery showcasing the many products Nintendo has launched over the history of the company. This decision was made after the area was announced to be in re-development; Nintendo intends to use this opportunity to open the gallery. At this point the museum is just called the “Nintendo Gallery,” but a proper name will probably be announced sometime closer to the building’s opening. Work on the museum is set to be completed by March 2024, with no word on when the museum might be opening.

The building that is being converted into the museum, the Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant, was originally built in 1969 and was used to manufacture the famous Hanafuda cards developed by Nintendo in the 1800s. The site also operated as a customer service center for product repairs for years. This facility will be converted into a museum that will house various exhibits and experiences revolving around the numerous Nintendo products and franchises that have been developed over the years. Hopefully, the museum will also include lesser-known products, instead of just housing the most successful Nintendo properties. With as rich a history as Nintendo's, there's bound to be something to surprise even the most dedicated fan.

Since the museum is not set to be completed until 2024, there is plenty of time for international Nintendo fans to plan a trip. The country also houses Super Nintendo World, a Mario-themed amusement park which has had some difficulty opening thanks to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps by 2024, both locations will be ready to offer a prime vacation to Nintendo fans.
