When it comes to Nintendo, there is no question that gamers tend to think mostly about the Mario universe. This is understandable, as ever since the series started just over 35 years ago, it has continuously made spectacular games. Through them, Mario interacts with a plethora of characters, and there are plenty more on the way, it seems. It is always nice seeing these characters come back in side games, such as in Mario Kart and Mario Tennis, as it allows gamers to learn more about their personalities.

There are some characters in the Mario franchise that are extremely funny, too. This ends up making the storylines of these games so much more entertaining, as it allows the player to become very absorbed by what is occurring. Some characters become funnier in later installments, as they start to grow into their personalities. The vast majority of characters from these games are entertaining, but there are a select few that really take the cake as the funniest.

Bowser Jr.

Bowser Jr. is doing a great job following in his father's footsteps, as he is a major pain for Mario. However, in the new game, Bowser's Fury, he joins Mario to help fight against Bowser.

In terms of comedy, though. Bowser Jr. has some unique mannerisms. His distinctive laugh is quite contagious, which meshes well with his child-like whining when things do not go his way.

Yoshi

Everything about Yoshi is quite comical. Even though he is an excellent ally to Mario, it is impossible not to laugh when he is around. When he jumps, especially in the Super Smash Bros. series, he lets out a very strange-sounding wail.

His attacks in every game are funny, too, as he straight up eats people and turns them into eggs. The way he runs is also very intriguing, and when he is happy, he often hops in place, which is a nice touch.

Mario

Mario is the heart of Nintendo and has been for over 35 years now. He is a true hero and never fails in his efforts to defeat Bowser, but while doing so, he is also quite comical.

Mario's choice of rhetoric is always a nice treat and also puts up quite the dramatics when he fails in a mission. This is especially the case when it comes to newer games, though, as it seems that he is far more vocal now.

Chain Chomp

Chain Chomp is known for being quite the powerhouse, which makes him a challenging enemy of Mario's. It is impossible to inflict damage on him in most games, which certainly makes him more intimidating.

Yet, what makes this character also quite hilarious is the fact that he is essentially a giant dog. He barks at Mario whilst attacking him, while also moving in a rather silly way since he is always attached to a chained leash.

Waluigi

Waluigi on Princess Peach's castle

Waluigi is a character that Nintendo seems to avoid using as much as possible, as evidenced by him being snubbed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It is a shame, as he provides humorous moments, especially when paired up with Wario.

His voice is strange, as he often shouts "wah, wah" in a nasal tone. Also, his entire appearance enhances his hilarity, as his tall body makes him look a bit awkward when moving. Mario Super Sluggers showcases this perfectly when he is pitching.

Toad

Toad in Mario Tennis Aces

Toad often accompanies Mario on his adventures, even if he does not too much in the process. However, it seems as though that he is an excellent choice to provide comic relief, which is not a bad thing at all.

Toad is somebody who will forever find himself in trouble, as he often is hit by whatever turmoil Bowser is causing at the time. Also, it is impossible to ignore his extremely high-pitched voice and screams.

Koopalings

The Koopalings give Mario a lot of trouble when they are around, which in turn makes them formidable foes. Yet, while this is true, they also are all such unique characters and this adds to their humor.

They all have unique appearances and styles, yet, when determining the funniest of the bunch, it is safe to say that Iggy and Lemmy easily come out as the winners.

Toadsworth

Toadsworth should probably stay away from the high-risk situations that Mario always finds himself in. Yet, due to the fact that he works for Peach, he sadly has no way to avoid them.

However, this makes for a lot of funny moments, as Toadsworth is actually a comedic genius. Even if it is unintentional, it impossible not to laugh at his voice and uptight mannerisms. Also, his top-of-the-line mustache helps his case, too.

Bowser

Bowser is the primary villain that Mario has to fight in virtually every game of the entire series. This may make players forget that even though he is evil, he is also funny, too.

This is especially the case when he has actually lines in Super Mario Sunshine. Although this does not carry over to future games, his deep voice is nothing short of hysterical.

Wario

Wario fighting in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Wario seems to be a character in this universe to primarily provide comedy. Of course, he causes a lot of issues for Mario, too, but as his character developed more, he became so much funnier.

His strange obsession with garlic and shooting bombastic butt-bombs certainly helps with this. Also, he has arguably the funniest voice in the entire franchise, too, while also being extremely goofy, in general. He may not be the most lovable of Nintendo characters, but he sure does well when it comes to bringing the laughs.
