Hulu shared the first trailer for Nine Perfect Strangers during the 2021 Oscars ceremony. The highly anticipated limited series is based on the bestselling novel by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty. Nicole Kidman won the rights to adapt the spine-tingling thriller under her banner Blossom Films. The acclaimed star reunited with her BLL and The Undoing showrunner David E. Kelley for the project.

Nine Perfect Strangers centers on Tranquillum House, a health resort that promises to completely transform guests in every aspect of wellness. Nine "perfect" strangers arrive for what they assume will be a typical ten-day spa retreat, but things turn out to be anything typical. Kidman also stars in the series, breathing life into Tranquillum's intense leader Masha. She guides an A-list cast of guests, which includes Melissa McCarthy, Michael Shannon, Luke Evans, Bobby Cannavale, Samara Weaving, and Regina Hall.

Hulu surprised viewers during ABC's 93rd annual Academy Awards telecast by dropping the first promo video for the drama. The 30-second spot gave a jam-packed inaugural glimpse at the series, with Kidman's ethereal Masha welcoming the world to Tranquillum House. "We are on the precipice of something great," she preaches to her bewildered guests in the clip. Watch the streaming service's full clip below:

Kidman also shared the promo video to her own social media pages, writing in the caption: "Celebrating #Oscars night with a first look at #NinePerfectStrangers, coming soon to @hulu." While no release date was given, the Oscar winner added that she cannot wait to usher the show out into the world soon and sent love to the evening's nominees. She was certainly the star of the brief trailer, although it also provided ample peeks at McCarthy and the rest of the players.

The trailer also teases the unorthodox way in which Masha runs her house of wellness. From the sprawling modern setting to creepy security footage, it seems like a cult camp wrapped up in resort packaging. As readers of the book will know, Tranquillum House acts more like a character than a setting. Therefore it's no surprise that production would pull out all the stops to ensure the look of the fictional resort is nothing short of show-stopping.

Of course, it will be hard to replicate the House readers built in their minds. Translating a book, albeit a monstrously popular novel, to the screen is never an easy feat. However, Kidman and her team seem to have the Midas touch. Fans feel safe in the powerhouse's hands, especially when it comes to a Liane Moriarty work. This marks Kidman's second time adapting one of the Aussie author's stories and it most likely won't be the last. Hot off the trails of the performer's work on both Big Little Lies and the acclaimed series The Undoing, also mined from a trendy read, Nine Perfect Strangers will hopefully be another charm.
