The official trailer just dropped for the existential fantasy drama Nine Days starring Winston Duke. The movie marks Edson Oda's feature directorial debut and boasts an impressive supporting cast that includes Zazie Beetz, Bill Skarsgård, and Benedict Wong. It generated considerable buzz at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, receiving a standing ovation and earning Oda the festival's coveted Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

Sony Pictures Classics released the trailer for Nine Days, where Winston Duke plays a recluse named Will, who spends his time watching people's lives through their TVs until they die and leave an opening for a new person on Earth. He's then tasked with interviewing and selecting unborn souls who are candidates to be born as new humans. After meeting one of his free-spirited candidates named Emma (Zazie Beetz), Will is forced to come to terms with his existence and determine how his troubling past will dictate his future. The title refers to the nine-day process in which each candidate must prove themselves worthy of replacing someone on Earth. Rounding out the impressive cast are Tony Hale, Geraldine Hughes, David Rysdahl, and Arianna Ortiz, each seemingly playing one of the candidates competing for a new life. The movie is slated for a January 27, 2020 release, though this may very well change due to the ongoing pandemic. Given that Nine Days is Edson Oda's first feature following several short films, it will be interesting to see how broader audiences receive the movie outside the typically enthusiastic festival circuit.
