Warning! Spoilers for DC vs. Vampires #6!

The question of who would win in a fight between Nightwing and Batgirl has been answered in the most remarkably dark way possible. Largely considered two of the Bat-Family's best fighters, Dick Grayson and Cassandra Cain have initiated a number of fan debates on who the better overall combatant is. The maxiseries DC vs. Vampires has seemingly put the issue to bed by allowing the two to fight in their deadliest battle yet.

The Elseworlds-like tale DC vs. Vampires is a dark look at the DC Universe as vampirism spreads among the superpowered community. Not only have villains fallen to the legion of the undead, but stalwart members of the Justice League such as Wonder Woman and Green Lantern have turned on their friends and family. As the darkness grows larger, unchanged heroes begin efforts to destroy the Vampire King and end the vampiric threat.

Unfortunately, the Vampire King has revealed himself in the most painful fashion in DC vs. Vampires #6 by James Tynion IV, Matthew Rosenberg, Otto Schmidt, Simone Di Meo, Daniele Di Nicuolo, Rex Lokus and Tom Napolitano. Just as it looks as though the Bat-Family has begun to turn the tide by killing Green Lantern and subduing Wonder Woman, Dick Grayson reveals himself to be the Vampire King and brutally murders Batman. His family flies into a rage and all rush in to kill him. Nightwing effortlessly holds everyone off, even bragging to his allies "I was better than all of you when I was still human." To drive his point home, Nightwing breaks Batgirl's arms before throttling her neck with ease.

Nightwing and Batgirl DC vs Vampires 6 DC Comics

It's no wonder that fans debate who would win in a battle between Nightwing and Batgirl. After all, short of Batman, they have some of the best combat training out of the entire Bat-Family. Dick Grayson has been by Batman's side the longest, and he even proved he could easily step in to replace the Dark Knight several times. However, Cassandra is the product of lifelong training from some of the best assassins in the world. Even Batman writer Tom King admits that Cassandra is one of the best fighters in the DC Universe, though Dick is right behind her in his rankings.

Of course, since Dick has the added benefit of being stronger and faster thanks to his vampiric condition, it's probably not the most fair matchup. But there's something to be said for Dick's admission that he was better than the other members of the Bat-Family. Infected heroes still retain aspects of their former selves, as seen later when Grayson confides to Wonder Woman that he wished one of his brothers would have joined them. While it can't be said with certainty that Nightwing is a better fighter, Dick at least believes he is on some level.

Thankfully, Cassandra made it out of her scuff with Grayson alive, along with Alfred and Green Arrow. Nightwing may be the victor in their first fight, but Batgirl might have a chance at a rematch soon enough.
