With the hot summer months just around the corner DC Comics has released several steamy variant covers depicting iconic heroes in just their swimsuits, with Nicola Scott illustrating a truly sexy vision of Nightwing, cementing him as DC's #1 thirst trap. Nightwing's assets are already famous, with him literally using his sex appeal to distract his enemies, but Scott's Swimsuit Special with Dick Grayson takes him to a whole other level.
While the superhero genre is known for being filled with gorgeous heroes, there are some characters whose thirst trap nature rise above the rest, like Harley Quinn's pouting lips, the X-Men's revealing costumes, and of course Nightwing's ample rear. Grayson has some competition in the Bat-Family with Jason Todd, as the Red Hood increased sex appeal over the past few years has given Nightwing's behind a run for it's money.
The stunning Swimsuit Summertime variant cover for Nightwing #95, illustrated by the immensely talented Nicola Scott, was first shared on Twitter by Tom Taylor, the author of the critically acclaimed current run of Nightwing. Nicola Scott has drawn sexy Nightwing a lot, including a well known depiction of Dick in every costume he has appeared in, featuring a very camera-friendly butt-centric pose front and center. Nightwing was just recently nominated for five 2022 Eisner Awards, a truly impressive number, and while these nomination come from the brilliant writing by Tom Taylor and the gorgeous art by Bruno Redondo, Nightwing himself as a sexy yet grounded and emotionally intelligent character lends himself to a great story with broad fan and critical appeal. This is by no means the first time that a variant cover for Nightwing has highlighted Grayson's derriere, with artist David Talaski depicting Dick doing a seductive yoga stretch for Nightwing #92.
Nightwing is not the only DC hero to be getting the Swimsuit Special treatment, with Supergirl, Batman, Queen Nubia, and others donning their sexiest beach attire to show up, but Grayson's cover is definitely something special. Thankfully, DC knows what its fan's want and is not afraid to highlight Dick's beautiful buns, like when they recently celebrated 2022 Super Hero Day with a cake featuring Nightwing's cheeks, or when they published a wildly steamy boxing ring variant cover by Babs Tarr for Robins #1. Dick Grayson is becoming a more and more established superhero every year, as he becomes the hero of Blüdhaven on with Batman's heroics in Gotham, but that shouldn't stop him from showing off his assets whenever he gets a chance. Superhero Swimsuit Editions were very popular in the 90s, with Marvel famously releasing the Marvel Swimsuit Special five summers in a row starting in 1991, so it is far past time that the world of comics brings back their hottest tradition! Twitter is going absolutely bonkers over Scott's depiction of Nightwing, with good reason, and hopefully the incredibly positive response to this art will encourage DC to continue soliciting this type of cover from their artists.
