Warning this article contains spoilers for Nightwing #75.

Nightwing has finally returned after losing his memory then being controlled by the Joker. Dick Grayson is aware of his past and in complete control of himself following his close brush with death. As always, Dick was at Batman's side right when he needed him at the climax of the 'Joker War.' Batman rallied the Bat-Family to take back Gotham after conquering Punchline's special strain of Joker Toxin thanks to Harley Quinn. After the 'Joker War' Nightwing has decided to return to the life he built for himself before his near-death experience.

Grayson's life changed forever when he was shot in the head by KGBeast. When Dick came to Gotham to visit the city that made him a hero and his father-figure he was shot in the head. Dick Grayson survived the attempted murder but his Nightwing persona died due to memory loss and side effects of the critical injury. Dick embraced his new freedom by creating a new life for himself. Because of his fighting skill, Dick found himself competing in Bludhaven's underground boxing circuit.

Dick lived a nomadic carefree lifestyle without the responsibility of fighting crime as a hero. He went as far as abandoning his old name and calling himself Ric Grayson. With no recollection of his past, he drifted until finding employment as a taxi driver. Batman was ready to let Dick live life without his adopted family after being rejected. Barbara's heart was broken when she discovered that Nightwing had taken to his new life and preferred the company of fellow bar patrons. He met his current love interest Beatrice Bennet at Prodigal Bar.

Nightwing's story gets even more convoluted when Joker uses the memory crystal to rewrite Dick's memories. Joker briefly transformed Ric into Dicky Boy and made him a member of his twisted family for 'Joker War.' Batgirl shattered the memory crystal and Nightwing returned, suit and all, taking his rightful place at Batman's side. After helping Batman and the Bat-Family rid Gotham of clowns Nightwing has decided to return to Bludhaven and to Beatrice. When he returns he is met by the first-ever Team Nightwing in Nightwing #75 by Dan Jurgens, Ronan Cliquet, Travis G. Moore. Team Nightwing consists of Hutch (a firefighter), Colleen and Zak (siblings and police officers), and Sap (a detective).

The team safeguarded Bludhaven during Nightwing's long absence. With Nightwing out of commission for so long, the spontaneous Team Nightwing was Bludhaven's last line of defense against criminals too difficult for the authorities to deal with. Dick Grayson has finally returned to Bludhaven to be with Beatrice and continue his role as the city's protector. Dick has the unique opportunity to do better than Bruce has with his team and love interest. He can protect Bludhaven, be vulnerable with his team, and maintain a happy relationship in the upcoming pages of Nightwing.
