Warning: SPOILERS for Nightwing #47.

Joker War has been hard on all members of the Bat Family, but it's only added to the increasing weight Richard Grayson has experienced recently. After surviving a near-fatal head wound, amnesia, and manipulation, Grayson became the pawn of the Joker who gained the ability to distort and warp Nightwing's memories to his own advantage. Believing himself to be Joker's son and second-in-command, Nightwing has worked alongside the Joker's forces, even fighting the Red Hood under a simple disguise. But in Nightwing #74, Joker's "Dickyboy" faces Jason Todd again, in a rematch that could finish what the Joker failed to do all those years ago.

Undergoing a period of lost purpose and seeking a new identity, Richard Grayson seems to have put the Ric Grayson phase behind him as he returned to Gotham following the Court of Owls attempt to manipulate him into becoming their Talon. However Richard would cross paths with the Joker, who not only knew of Dick's identity as Nightwing but also stole a mind-alerting crystal which allowed him to manipulate the former Robin even further. Giving him a new backstory and another horrible nickname, Richard worked alongside Joker and his girlfriend Punchline as they took over Gotham City. Dick's current alliance would have him cross paths with Batgirl and later the Red Hood, dismissing the former's attempt to jog his memory and trying to kill the latter while wearing a clown mask.

In this issue, Nightwing briefly convinces Red Hood and Drake that he's back for good until his vocal cues make Jason realize that it was Nightwing that he fought a few hours ago. Revealing his true alliance while pummeling them both, Jason tells Tim to deal with the bomb within the hospital while he and Dick have a rematch. The Joker's gloating about the situation is interrupted by Batgirl, as Jason puts forth his best effort... but unfortunately is no match for Nightwing. Gleefully casting them within the context of the Red Riding Hood story, the big bad Nightwing not only puts Jason on the ground, but also pulls a gun on him, calling Jason's bluff by asking which eye he'd like to be shot in.

While they were both once Robins, these fan-favorite Bat Family members continue the discussion of whom is  better by adding another notch in Nightwing's corner, as Jason's brutality is no match for a Joker controlled Nightwing. Joker's plan to have Nightwing kill Red Hood is interrupted by Batgirl and Ric's partner Bea who use the crystal to reverse Joker's efforts and have Dick's true memories restored. Reunited with Batman and the rest of the Bat Family, Dick talks about how good it is to be back while realizing that this restoration of status has cost him his relationship with Bea.

While Jason appears to be just as happy to see the return of Nightwing, its amusing to see Red Hood standing alongside someone who moments ago was ready to kill him without a second thought, even if it was really the Joker pulling the trigger.
