Warning! Spoilers ahead for Nightwing #94

The latest issue of Nightwing confirms that Dick Grayson hates cops who don't uphold the law more than outright criminals. While there was a time when Dick Grayson was a Blüdhaven police officer, his day job didn't last very long. Now, this new issue of Nightwing sees Dick Grayson going after the city's corrupt police commissioner with a determination that could only come from his bad blood with the BPD.

Previously in Nightwing's ongoing series from Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo, Dick Grayson has been waging a bigger battle for Blüdhaven's heart than ever before (both with and without wearing his mask). Having inherited billions of dollars from the late Alfred Pennyworth, Dick Grayson has been building new spaces and foundations to help those in Blüdhaven who need a hand getting back on their feet. However, these same people are the ones the city's criminals take advantage of the most, resulting in Blüdhaven's biggest crime boss Blockbuster coming after both Dick and Nightwing via his control over the police department.

Following Nightwing's public exposure of the BPD's extensive corruption, Police Commissioner Maclean attempts to flee the city in the new Nightwing #94. However, Dick Grayson easily takes him down while getting his hands on a treasure trove of evidence he can use against Blockbuster and his illicit activities. However, Nightwing does take the time to share exactly how he feels about dirty cops. In his mind, criminals like Blockbuster are at least more honest about who they are and what they do in comparison.

Nightwing Takes Down Bludhaven Police Commissioner

Nightwing removing Maclean from the picture does two really good things for Blüdhaven. Not only does it limit Blockbuster's influence by removing one of his chief allies, but Maclean's replacement from Metropolis Maggie Sawyer will hopefully whip the department back into the force for justice it always should have been. All in all, it's an epic win for Dick Grayson that ties nicely to his own history as an officer of the law. When he was questioned by detectives about why he quit in earlier issues, Dick said that there were "too many criminals", a not-so-subtle claim that the corruption in the BPD was so vast he couldn't effectively serve justice.

While bringing down Maclean is a solid victory for Nightwing in his ongoing battle to truly save Blüdhaven, it certainly looks as though Blockbuster will become even more desperate in response. Naturally, that desperation is likely going to make him even more dangerous in the issues to come. Here's hoping Nightwing has what it takes as the stakes continue to get higher in DC's ongoing Nightwing series.
