Warning: contains preview images for Nightwing #93!

A new DC Comics cover has confirmed the final answer to Nightwing’s long-standing love triangle. Nightwing writer Tom Taylor unveiled the cover to Nightwing #93 on Twitter. Illustrated by regular series artist Bruno Redondo, it shows both Nightwing and Barbara Gordon perched high above the Gotham City skyline, and the amazing cover may have settled the decades-long love triangle between Nightwing, Barbara and Starfire. The issue goes on sale in June.

Throughout his career, as both Robin and Nightwing, Dick Grayson has been in committed romantic relationships with several heroes, including the Huntress. But perhaps his two greatest love interests have been Barbara Gordon, who he met while he was still Robin, and Starfire, his teammate on the Teen Titans. Nightwing has been seemingly stuck in a love triangle with the two, and recent events have done seemingly little to solve the matter. Nightwing recently joined his fellow Titans in opening the Titans Academy, to train the next generation of heroes; Starfire is a fellow instructor, which puts the two of them back in close contact again. Meanwhile, in the pages of Nightwing’s own solo title, he and Barbara Gordon have renewed their relationship, with the two going as far as spending the night together. It may seem like Nightwing will never settle down, but the recently revealed cover to Nightwing #93 may have settled the matter for good. The issue will be written by Tom Taylor and illustrated by Bruno Redondo.

In a Tweet, Nightwing writer Tom Taylor unveiled the cover by Bruno Redondo on Twitter. Taylor prefaced the image, saying it was “special.” The cover sets a romantic scene, with the two high atop the Gotham City skyline, watching the sun rise together. Both are dressed in their uniforms, so perhaps this cute moment comes after a night of dealing with the worst Gotham has to offer. Fans have responded to the image, giving it over 2,000 likes and nearly 300 retweets.

Nightwing has a reputation for being a ladies’ man in the DC Universe and judging from the number of relationships he has had, the reputation is justified; however, Starfire and Barbara Gordon stand above the rest. The relationships Nightwing shared with them are the stuff of legends, perhaps leading to an unwillingness for creators to have him pick one definitively. Nightwing’s recent decision to partner with Starfire to open the Titans Academy has put him back in touch with his former lover, but at long last it seems as if he may be ready to build a life with Barbara Gordon. The two have grown close once again in the pages of Nightwing, and the cover to issue 93 may close the book on this story once and for all.

Nightwing has been at the center of one of the greatest love triangles in not only DC history, but comics as a whole. Now, after years of indecisiveness, Nightwing may have finally found the one for him—Barbara Gordon.
