The latest Super Pet, Bitewing, is taking the spotlight once more in a new DC Comics cover featuring Nightwing. Nightwing #91 will have an adorable variant cover featuring Haley, Dick Grayson's canine companion. She's exactly what the hero - and his fans - need.
Haley, also referred to as Bitewing on occasion, is Dick Grayson's newest pet. He saved the three-legged puppy from a group of thugs and the two are already incredible close. Nightwing #87 featured her being kidnapped, though the titular hero rapidly came to her aid. While she is a new addition to DC Comics, she'll likely be a mainstay during Nightwing's mission to save Blüdhaven.
On Twitter, Serg Acuña shared his upcoming variant cover for Nightwing #91. This issue has the creative team of Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, and Adriano Lucas. The cover features Nightwing placing a blue domino mask on Haley, matching his own. In front of her is his pair of escrima sticks. She has already been teased in a superhero role in a previous variant cover, but seeing her eventually be by his side crime-fighting would be incredible.
Bitewing and Nightwing are a great pair and Haley would be a great addition to DC's League of Super Pets. She has already proven that she can gather help for her heroic counterpart when he needs it, as seen in Nightwing #88. She has also dreamed of donning her own matching outfit in the third reprint of Nightwing #78, which was her debut issue, and starred on a variant cover for Nightwing #87. Haley has continually been stealing the spotlight, building a strong case for her continued appearance and perhaps eventual legitimate heroism in her future.
If Haley were to join up with the Super Pets, she has the potential to have adventures with Ace the Bathound, Krypto, and many other helpful critters in DC Comics. While it may take some time to happen - perhaps after she's a little more grown - she'd be a great addition to the team. After all, she's learning from one of the best, who was similarly trained by one of DC's best and most popular heroes. In time, she might have detective skills to rival those of Ace and his owner, Batman. She's already described as being "persuasive" and she has fans within the Bat-Family and Teen Titans. She would likely prove to be rather heroic in her own right if given the chance. Until then, fans should keep their eyes peeled for Haley's next appearances, as well as more potential comic covers featuring her as Bitweing continues stealing the spotlight from Nightwing. Nightwing #91 - and this variant cover from Serg Acuña - will be available April 19.
