Warning! Spoilers for Nightwing #85 by DC Comics

DC Comics just revealed that Nightwing and Batgirl's biggest fear is losing each other. In Nightwing #85, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon's rekindled relationship takes center stage, as the two heroes fight together to stop the Anti-Oracle. However, when the pair are dosed with Fear Toxin, both heroes are tricked into believing a happy ending together isn't possible, as they see each other die.

Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon have one of the most iconic relationships in comics. However, Nightwing has also been paired with Starfire of the Teen Titans - meaning it hasn't always been his primary romance in his stories. But, when Batgirl and Nightwing are together, it's hard to deny the connection between the two popular Bat-Family heroes. In the most recent Nightwing run at DC Comics, the romance between Dick and Barbara has been brought back to the forefront. In the newest issue of the series, the pair confirm how much they love genuinely love each other and want a happy ending to their story.

In Nightwing #85 by Tom Taylor, Robbi Rodriguez, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott, Nightwing and Batgirl team up to take down the Oracle network for good after it's been corrupted and used by the Magistrate to spread propaganda. The pair of heroes head to the Oracle 2 to shut down the system's backup and take it down remotely. However, after fighting the Magistrate's forces and reaching the secret location, they're both hit with a large dose of Fear Toxin. Readers see Batgirl's perspective, revealing her worst fear: Nightwing is shot in the head and killed in front of her.

Nightwing Batgirl

In the hallucination, Barbara holds Dick's lifeless body before losing control and attacking the Magistrate's soldiers for killing him. But, in the middle of the nightmare, she's awakened by Tim Drake, who gives her a gas mask and stops the Fear Toxin from taking over. After being told what she saw wasn't real, Batgirl shares with Nightwing what she saw. Dick tells Barbara he saw her die too in his hallucination, leading the pair to share a kiss.

The Fear Toxin revealed that both heroes' biggest fear is losing each other. Considering everything Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon have been through together over the years, it's not surprising that they're both most afraid of life without each other by their side. Hopefully, Nightwing and Batgirl eventually get the happy ending they deserve and never have to experience anything resembling the nightmare the Fear Toxin showed them in real life.
